Was not aware of the 2014 brake by wire (BBW) system and how it works.
I can imagine how dificult it is for the drivers and engineers to work out a smooth transition from the kinetic recovery and hydraulic modulation of the rear brakes.

Canadian GP
In 1989, my wife and I got 2 tickets in a grandstand just before Turn 1. Here's Senna on race day:
And here's the podium from the 1995 Canadian GP. Jean Alesi won his only GP on his 31st birthday and is with Rubens Barrichello and Eddie Irvine (Jordan's best podium as well). My brother and our wives were in the Gold grandstands and got into pit lane just in time to catch this action. I held the camera up over my head and snapped a shit load of pics and this one turned out.

EDIT: just checked, it was Andrea DeCeasaris a/k/a "De Crasheris" and the first driver I ever heard described as a high-speed chicane.

it sucked for spectators though-you had to leave the hotel at 6:30 to be out at the track and in your seat by 8:00, earlier if you sat in the Senna Hairpin section.

Ahh, the start of Williams 3rd surge (1st 79-82, 2nd 86-87, 3rd 89-97, 4th 2000-2004). Beginning of a great partnership with Renault.

Not sure the USGP is going to happen for me this year. All depends on how the next few months go; $400 for 2 is steep for us right now.

Canadian grand prix promoter pleased with new F1 V6 sound

Canadian grand prix promoter Francois Dumontier doesn’t mind the new and milder sound of formula one.
Earlier in 2014, Australian grand prix chief Ron Walker revealed his outrage at the loss of the screaming engines of the past, insisting fellow race promoters will also be looking into whether the sport had breached its contracts.
Less concerned, however, is Dumontier, the man behind the popular Canadian grand prix in Montreal.
He is currently in the midst of negotiations to extend the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve’s contract beyond 2014, but on the matter of engine sound, he thinks it is purely “subjective”.
“I think assessing the sound of the engine is subjective,” Dumontier told La Presse newspaper.
“Now with a V6, I am more inclined to look at the technological development,” he added.
“In Montreal, simulations predict that Mercedes will be 18 kilometres per hour faster on the Casino straight than before.
“The cars will be less noisy, but there are those concerned with the performance, and they will be more powerful,” said Dumontier.
And he pointed out that some spectators in Montreal later this year will be happy with F1′s new sound.
“With the V8s, it was impossible to have a conversation when there were cars on the track,” he said.
“I see a positive side: Saint-Lambert will complain less,” Dumontier, referring to the city on the other side of the St Lawrence river, joked.
Nonetheless, F1′s engine manufacturers are looking into how to urgently turn up the volume of the new turbocharged V6s, with the only viable change likely to be in the area of the exhaust.
But there are already noticeable differences between the sounds of the Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault cars, and Renault’s Rob White said the reason is due to varying exhaust lengths.
“Mercedes has the shortest exhaust, we have the longest and Ferrari is somewhere in between,” he is quoted by Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport. (GMM)

Maldonado paid Williams $25M to leave the team
or more precisely, his Venezuelan oil sponsor did. Talk about getting less than zero for your money out of the deal.
Maldonado paid $25m to leave Williams
A $25 million termination payment from Pastor Maldonado's sponsor helped Williams to drive back into profit.
The publicly-listed British team released its 2013 financial results on Friday, showing a $20m operating profit despite a poor season on track.
The Telegraph newspaper said the result was helped by a one-off termination payment made by the Venezuelan oil company PDVSA, who wanted to move their backing of driver Maldonado to the Lotus team for 2014.
The report said the payment "is believed to be in the region of $25m", in the wake of a more than $8 million loss recorded by Williams just a year ago.
"We made good progress commercially through the winter months and Williams continues to attract an enthusiastic and very loyal group of partners and fans," team boss Sir Frank Williams said in Friday's statement.
"These annual results demonstrate that we continue to manage our business in a fiscally responsible way and provide the foundation from which we can continue to grow.
"We have started the 2014 formula one season well and hope we can continue to improve our performance," he added.

^ wow, the only thing that compares to that is when Ferrari paid Kimi $45M (estimated) for him not to race in 2010.

Interesting race
- Great drive by Vettel to 4th, made some pretty good passes
- Radio traffic between Hamilton and his race engineer were strained to say the elast with the strategy
- Ferrari one lap down
- Good to see Williams doing better
- Perez must be loving life these days
- Lotta pressure on Hamilton but he doesn't crack too often

Hamilton seems very paranoid. Maybe he thinks Mercedes prefers a German to win?

^ yeah he didn't like the miscommunication problems, questioned the gap times and openly wondered about the strategy.

Suzie was crooked?
The chassis used by Sebastian Vettel in the first four races of 2014 was bent, according to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.
The reigning quadruple world champion notably struggled alongside fresh-faced teammate Daniel Ricciardo until Spain, where he spectacularly scythed through the field and declared for the first time that driving in 2014 is "fun".
Although no obvious chassis flaw was found between the Chinese and Spanish grand prix, Red Bull nonetheless put Vettel at the wheel of the winter testing chassis in Barcelona.
"I do think it made a difference," the German declared after the race.
Auto Motor und Sport correspondent Michael Schmidt said further investigations have been taking place at Milton Keynes after Barcelona.
He confirmed: "The chassis he (Vettel) used in the first four races was in fact crooked."
Schmidt said Vettel, the winner of the last nine grands prix of 2013 on the trot, had suspected something was wrong with his car after China.
"A second down (to Ricciardo) was too much. I had not forgotten how to drive," said the German.

^ that is interesting.
Woulda thought with all the high tech equipment F1 teams buy that they could tell the tub was not up to spec.

Well, Vettel was 7 seconds closer to Ricciardo at the finish in China than he was at the finish of the Spanish GP where he had the unbent chassis.
