Hoping maybe they aren't weren't pushing them & they'll sound a bit better in qualifying & race day.
Definitely miss the screaming sounds of the past already. One of the commercial breaks came back with shots from last season & threw me off until I saw 2013 in the corner.

Curiously, if you look at the practice times, it's the same usual suspects on top of the times. Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull. No major failures to report. Granted, it is still early, but 2014 seems alot like 2013 so far.

For those of you with a PC/Mac..
Steam has F1 2013 for $16 bucks for the next couple of days, includes several add-ons. I bought it, love it and I'm buying a wheel so I can play properly. It's really well done!

Wow, some pretty interesting qualifying results.
Magnussen, Bottas, Kvyat - in the top 10.
Button, Raikkonen, Vettel - 11, 12, 13.
Things are quite wet out there.

not really a surprise considering Lotus did the least amount of laps in testing of any team
Total 2014 test distance - by team (power unit, where different):
1. Mercedes, 4972.644 km
2. Williams (Mercedes), 4893.432 km
3. Ferrari, 4488.516 km
4. McLaren (Mercedes), 4153.464 km
5. Sauber (Ferrari), 4039.32 km
6. Force India (Mercedes), 3974.868 km
7. Caterham (Renault), 3313.128 km
8. Toro Rosso (Renault), 2436.384 km
9. Red Bull (Renault), 1705.764 km
10. Marussia (Ferrari), 1686.084 km
11. Lotus (Renault), 1288.056 km (Lotus missed opening Jerez test)
I couldn't be happier that Maldonado, who after shitting all over Williams jumped to Lotus where he now is DEAD LAST IN AUSTRALIA dick.

This is going to be a fantastic race. I don't predict Vettel moving up much, since he seems to have trouble with traffic. Really curious to see how the new guys do.

-Too bad for Kobayashi. And Massa.
-Vettel AND Hamilton out? I'll take it.
-Great finish for McLaren. Nice podiums for Kevin and Jenson (sucks for Riccardo, though..). I think Kevin will be good for Jenson - he'll push him consistently every race.

Daniel Ricciardo disqualified from Australian Grand Prix
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/formula1/26601418
fuel flow issue
Impressive start for both Riccardo and Magnussen, shame about the disqualification. I think RB will be in good shape this year if they can work out their reliability.
Good to see Dennis in the McLaren pit.
Also good to see Williams running well.

This race has turned me into a Ricciardo fan. It was cool to see a podium full of "number 2" drivers. Sucks what happened to RB afterwards, though. Ruined what would've otherwise been something of a fairy tale.
From my understanding it's gone something like this:
RB: Your fuel sensors are crap.
FIA: Here, try this one.
RB: This one's even worse.
FIA: All right, put in the old one and we'll add an offset to get an accurate reading.
RB: That's stupid. We're using our own.
*Race Start*
FIA: That's illegal. Do what we tell you.
RB: No.
*Race End*
FIA: Okay. You're disqualified.
Here's the full decision in tech-speak:

I doubt RB will get what they want from the appeal. Problematic or not, rules are rules and they were broken.

Ohhh damn. I'm no RBR fan but to see an Aussie get 2nd in his home GP for the first time ever was really cool to see. I'm sure Magnussen gets no satisfaction from being promoted in this manner.

Yea that really sucks. Feel bad for Daniel especially since he was "tripping balls" up there on stage haha.
Magnussen is going to have a pretty good career ahead of him.
Hamilton already starting off with bad luck

Yeah speed, not the start us Hamilton fans wanted!
I think Magnussen will beat Button often this season, dude is the real deal! Bottas drove the hell out of that Williams today also!

It doesn't look as though it's going to go RBR's way since the team, after being told their fuel flow was incorrect didn't use the FIA's recommended approach (ignored) and instead, used their own manner of correction. I predict that penalty being upheld unfortunately for Ricciardo. :boo:

Agreed, especially since it seems like most of the other teams were having problems with the sensors, but they all agreed to the FIA's "band-aid", for lack of a better term.

Based on the reporting so far, it does look like RB will not win the appeal. However, I haven't seen anything yet which explains exactly what RB did. Did they use their own fuel sensor? How are they going to prove that their flow rate was within the limits?

The best was when Hakkinen outqualified Senna in his first race for McLaren in 1993.

The ones that stick in my head are the failures, chiefly Andretti and J. Magnussen.

Jan Magnussen only drove one race for them, so they were pretty wise to not continue him.
I think of Hamilton, Prost, Kimi, Mika as their successful drivers who came in as rookies or minimal F1 experience.
Andretti definite failure, his story is unique in that he thought highly of his driving skills but refused to live in Europe. That infuriated Dennis and others. This leads to Häkkinen replacing him at the Portuguese Grand Prix, Mika knew Senna since he was McLaren's test driver.
Amusing story from Jo Ramirez at McLaren on this.
Senna had previously had Micheal as a easy teammate to dominate. Since Senna had just signed with Williams, some in McLaren think Senna was not putting forth his best effort. Mika shows up, and Senna comes over and offers to "help" him with his qualifying setup and race line. Mika hasn't raced a F1 car in a year, shyly tells Senna he knows the course (raced for Lotus for couple years) and should do fine. Goes out and beats Senna to 3rd on the grid behind the Williams. Came in, gets out and tells Senna that the he and the car are good. Ramirez said even Dennis had a chuckle over it.

The softly-spoken youngster claimed afterwards that it felt like a win, but tellingly Ron Dennis, back on the McLaren pit-wall after a five-year absence, said McLaren are 'not here to finish third'.

Five hours and 20 minutes after the end of the race, Red Bull, the world champions for the last four years, were called cheats for consistently exceeding the maximum fuel flow of 100kg/h. I understand they gained about 8bhp through their malpractice.
If it really was only worth 8HP, that's a embarrassment for the team.

Im no RB fan, and granted it is just a matter of a few key strokes of a computer to fix, This is just plain stupid. Hey, Lets just have one engine manufacturer, one ecu tune, one chassis etc for everyone so that no one has an advantage. Part of racing is finding out something that works better than your rival. If that comes from tuning or exhaust design or what ever as long as engine specs meet the requirements, stuff like fuel flow should be null and void. Especially when there is only a limited amount of fuel allowed in the car in the first place. But that is just my

^^^ except that's far too simple of a conclusion. More fuel means more power and if the Regie has figured out how to use less than 100 kg of fuel for a race distance but still inject more fuel via a heightened flow rate, they are cheating and still finishing (like they did in Australia).
