Meh, more rules to conform to, meaning less innovation.

the "rules" in F1 are the formula, and as long as the formula produces better, aesthetically pleasing cars, I'm all in.

Great. More change. I laugh at them trying to reduce costs but with them changing the rules as much as they do it only causes more spending. And why the hell cant they make an amendment to the rules for this year, there is time. The teams constantly try new wing designs over the course of a season. Let them change it now so we dont have to look at UGLY all season!

^ don't often agree with JV, but do here
In fact, he went as far as to say that F1 is not about the environmentally-friendly and never will be.
"They are trying to cater to the wrong people. They are trying to cater to the 'greens', but F1 is not green so there is no point even trying.
"It gives a good image to governments and parliaments but it's not F1.

FIA approves hooning
Now that it's legal, that takes all the fun out of it.

Bahrain Day 1 Testing
Nico Hulkenberg set the fastest time on the first day of the second pre-season Formula 1 test in Bahrain, as Mercedes-engined teams filled three of the top four spots on the time sheet.
The Force India driver completed 78 laps of running and was the only man to crack the 1m36s. His 1m36.880s best on soft tires put him inside Sebastian Vettel's fastest race lap in last year's Bahrain Grand Prix.
Ferrari's Fernando Alonso set the second fastest time, edging Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes with a late run.
Alonso earlier brought out the first red flag of the day when his Ferrari left the pits billowing smoke thanks to an oil leak first thing in the morning.
Hamilton and McLaren's Kevin Magnussen both took turns to top the times during the day. Hamilton wound up third fastest and Magnussen fourth.
Red Bull suffered more problems with its new car following a disastrous first test at Jerez recently. The team spent the entire morning holed up in the garage trying to get the RB10 to work.
World champion Sebastian Vettel eventually took to the track in the afternoon and set the fifth fastest time, before breaking down and causing a lengthy delay with the day's final red flag.
Romain Grosjean gave the new Lotus E22 'twin-tusk' design its public debut in Bahrain but completed just eight laps and was the slowest of the nine drivers to do a flying lap.
Sauber's Adrian Sutil suffered a spin at Turn 1 in the morning, but still covered more laps than any other driver (82). He completed the top six just two tenths shy of Vettel.
Hulkenberg fastest on Bahrain day one
Caterham's Robin Frijns managed 68 laps and was the fastest of the Renault-powered runners until Vettel's brief 14-lap flourish.
Toro Rosso also suffered a long delay with its new car. An oil leak was among the problems that restricted GP3 champion Daniel Kvyat to just five laps and the eighth fastest time.
Felipe Massa was among the pace-setters at Jerez, but only completed a handful of installation laps on day one in Bahrain, as Williams suffered a "fuel system issue" with its FW36.
Marussia's Jules Bianchi managed only three laps (the fewest of all) as the team encountered an "IT configuration problem" with the MR03.
Pos Driver Team Time Gap Laps
1. Nico Hulkenberg Force India-Mercedes 1m36.880s 78

Brawn needs to be at MBZ this year dammit. It'd be cool to see him as Principal of a (potential) winning WCC @ 3 marques: Ferrari, Brawn and MBZ.

Then again, winter testing speeds usually have little to do with actual outcomes during the season. I read a report this morning that said the Renault folks estimate their power plant to be 100-150 bhp less than Mercedes and Ferrari and are having significant problems with the ERS unit. That's not good . . . Perhaps worse off than all of them is Lotus

Renault seem to have gotten everything in the design of their motor wrong. May be a long season for the teams they supply. Merc and Mclaren looking strong and reliable in testing thus far.

McLaren is looking solid so far. For a rookie, Magnussen seems to be holding his own, to say the least. He'll give Jenson Button a run for his money. I'm a JB fan, though...so I'd like him to be the one who brings home the WDC. I'd also like to see him finish off his career with McLaren-Honda in 2015.

Also like Button, matured alot over the years that resulted in his WDC. Also just got engaged.

Vettel quote after 1st day of test
Supposedly, Vettel, after a fractured and massively truncated programme of kangaroo-hopping around laps as a result of the chronic problems of the Renault engine, the world champion got out of his car and said something along the lines of: 'This is pointless; I'm not driving that again until it's sorted out.' And left. So far today they have 15 laps, Lew has 62 in on a long run and hasn't stopped yet.

I'm all for Red Bull having a bit of trouble, but it sounds like they're way off the pace in testing. I still want to see them be competitive.
Oh well. Go Hamilton!

Who knows about true pace with testing? Ricciardo had 3rd fastest time this morning (ahead of Alonso) but only did 15 laps. Hamilton did 89 (same as Nico yesterday) before his gearbox failed (same as Nico). Alonso is still on track with 107 laps and counting-more than any other driver (former record was 89 w/ MBZ).

don't believe for a second RBR is down and out for the season. If anyone can fix the problems, it's a top-funded team unless it's mostly down to power plant then they might just be fuxored. Lotus have even less laps than RBR so they may be in the worst position of all teams. I'd love to see Massa do well in Williams, that'd be awesome.

Don't panic RB. Things look grim right now, but preseason testing isn't a good indicator of the whole season.
