Ferrari hasn't had tire problems it seems but it was slow out of corners and down the straights. They seem to have figured that out now. Alonso is being called the new "Professor" a la Prost, with tire management based on conserving when he has to (Monaco) then flying when Lewis pitted to open a gap and leapfrog him on pitstops.

^ +1, mostly what I've heard and read during the races is a lack of downforce from the F2012.
Alonso is a great driver, probably the best of the current lot in that he knows how to extract the best from even a lesser performing car.
I would have though Jenson Button would be doing better this season with his Prost like style as well. It seems strange he's had tire management problems, mostly from getting enough out of them in qualifying.

yeah Legend, you're right on Jense. I don't know what's going to happen this weekend. It's one of the McLaren drivers' favorite tracks and they do well, esp. Jensen. Fernando is the maximum capitalist out of weather situations this year.

Button was NOWHERE all weekend-it was very sad to watch. I remember looking at the leaders catching him and thinking WTF is going on?

Button is the unofficial #2 driver for McLaren.
I don't know whether it's coincidence or what, it's always the #2 drivers in most top F1 teams who will encounter lots of mishaps such as unreliable car, bad handling, bad pit strategy, etc.; and rarely the #1 drivers.

no such thing as a #2 in McLaren. remember Senna/Prost? Alonso/Lewis?

One of the complaints Prost told Dennis when he was leaving for Renault in 81 was the unequal cars and equipment circumstances. Prost and Watson both took turns with the best car in 80 and it bothered both the them. Dennis took that to heart and worked hard to always ensure both drivers had equal equipment or at least share the best car no matter what.

So I guess it was just pure bad luck for Button to get the not-so-good car.

He was driving 2 seconds a lap slower than Hamilton. McLaren famously never favors one driver over another, including car. I can only guess Jense didn't have the same set up as Lew and has something going on mentally that is preventing him from driving better. Very strange because he has always been a steady Eddie kinda guy.

Whitmarsh has taken blame for Canada, rear suspension setup issues with excessive tire wear. However Button has not performed consistently this season like he did last year. He's been pretty frank about it as well not blaming the car or the tires, saying it's his problem.

Button's a good driver, perhaps not Alonso good but he's proven himself post-Brawn after placing 2nd last season where even Flavio admitted he was wrong about Button (he had some harsh comments about Jensen when he drove for Renault).

Flavio's a doucher, a rich doucher, but still the result is the same. He flames everyone, even going after Schuey at one point as I recall.

A lap of the COTA
thanks Codemasters, I thought the rise to Turn 1 would've been more dramatic based on the renderings I saw. Oh well. Lots of places to pass it looks like.

supposely its a picture of an accident...
Formula 1 driver and BBC analyst Jaime Alguersari said in his weekly column: "I was shocked to hear of the accident suffered by Maria de Villota. I know her and her family very well. I still don't know the cause of the accident. There are so many rumours but I want to wait to see what really happened.
"It's terribly sad. Maria is a fantastic person, as are her brothers and her father Emilio, who was one of Spain's first F1 drivers.
"She is a role model, especially for all the females who want to get into F1. So this is a very sad situation.
"Thankfully, she is not in a life-threatening situation so we have to look at the positive side. We will see Maria again."
Lewis Hamilton tweeted: "Just heard about Maria's terrible accident at Duxford. I hope she pulls through. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time."
The McLaren driver said later: "I don't understand how it happened or how it was able to happen."

From Autosport:
One big swimming pool (mud pit) come Sunday?
Silverstone's organisers insist there are no question marks about the British Grand Prix going ahead as planned on Sunday, despite the major problems caused by the weather.
In light of the breakdown of the traffic system on Friday, caused by car parks and campsites getting washed out, British GP chiefs have already advised fans with public parking to stay away from qualifying day.
With further poor weather predicted over the weekend, and Jenson Button suggesting that the race could not go ahead if the rain was as bad on Sunday as it was on the opening day of practice, there is the possibility of the situation not improving by then.
But Silverstone's managing director Richard Phillips believed the circuit itself was holding up well to the challenges of the weather, and hoped that emergency measures being put in place on Saturday would help ease matters for the big day.

Webber signs a RBR contract
He's with RBR for another year, good for him, he deserves it. Kind of wanted to see him over at Ferrari.

Good for him, a bit of a drama queen a couple seasons ago Weber got his head down this year. Interesting the dynamics in that team with some comments from Vettel.

de Villota-car not to blame
After an investigation, the car is ruled out as the cause.
It appears the Marussia driver and not the car are to blame for the accident.
http://planetf1.com/news/3213/7904121/Marussia-Car-Was-Not-To-Blame
The F1 app is pretty intense. It's not just times but it's news; splits; tire usage; weather; downloadable replays of the sessions/race; and a live track map feature that shows where every car on the track is in real-time. It's a bit o' cash but I'll definitely buy it again next year. It takes viewing to a whole new level.
