Baja 1000 (Today thru Nov. 18th)
For those of you that are into desert racing the Baja 1000 is going on right now. November 16-18
You can listen to live feed from the "Weatherman". If you are familiar with the Baja race or you have seen the movie Dust to Glory you know who the Weather man is. More or less he is the head of emergency communications. Right now they have 4 streaming audio feeds. Unfortunately only 2 of them are working right now (Loreto and La Paz). Loreto is in the middle of the Baja and La Paz is the finish so there isn't much chat right now. They should be getting the other two feed up soon....hopefully!?!? Live radio webcast: http://www.race-dezert.com/wm/index.html You can also track the cars/buggies/bike via satellite paired with Google earth. This one is currently down, but Cameron Steele has been doing short clip updates frequently over the past few days and is expected to continue to do it from his Trophy Truck. Tracking and delayed updates: http://www.digital1unlimited.tv/baja1000/index.php Drivers you can track from digital1unlimited: KASH VESSELS ROBBY GORDON GREG ADLER HEIDI STEELE TRAVIS PASTRANA CAMERON STEELE LARRY ROESELER Here are a couple other tracking sites: http://racetrackinginternational.com/tracking/ http://www.irctracking.com/# Race course on Google earth: http://www.score-international.com/...GoogleEarth.kmz Score Baja 1000 main webpage: http://www.score-international.com/index.html Enjoy! |
On a related note, the documentary movie "From Dust to Glory" is out on DVD now. I think the trailer can still be found at the official web site.

The West Coast Choppers crew pulled the engine out, and it was flown to California to be worked on. It was back early this morning and the truck was running again by 5:30am. The West Coast Choppers Trophy Truck made it to the AM Tech Inspection and will be ready to race later today.

Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button will take part in the Baja 1000 off-road classic in November.Button, 39, will contest the US event on November 19-24 under the banner of Rocket Motorsport, the name of the karting team founded by his late father John which was relaunched earlier this week. The defending Super GT champion and SMP Racing LMP1 driver will compete in a spec Trophy Truck run by experienced off-road constructor Brenthel Industries in the 6100 class. Button will share the vehicle with Rocket commercial director and Le Mans 24 Hours LMP2 class winner Chris Buncombe and another friend, Mazen Fawaz. "It’s certainly going to be a special challenge and something I’ve wanted to try for a long time," said Button. "The idea of 20-plus hours racing off road is so different to anything we’ve done before, and having watched hours of on-board already, the different types of terrain that we will encounter look unbelievable!” “Driving this truck is like nothing I’ve ever experienced: we’ve only had very limited mileage testing off road but it feels like we need to learn everything from the beginning again." Button and his teammates will undertake an initial warm-up event next month when they contest the Mint 400 in Las Vegas. "The Mint 400 is the biggest off-road race in the US so I’m really looking forward to getting out in the desert in Vegas and seeing what it’s all about," he added. The Baja assault is the second Rocket Motorsport project to be announced. It follows the unveiling of a Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup programme with a Honda NSX GT3 under the 'Jenson Team Rocket RJN' banner (pictured below). The team plans to run a solo car for up-and-coming drivers in the Silver Cup class of the five-race series that includes the Spa 24 Hours in July. |
