ALONSO to race Cup car at the Glen?
I was with my brother Monday and he has floated an idea to Lewis' management company to try and get him to run a Cup Car at the Glen next August while F1 is on summer break. Tommy Hilfiger, Lewis' new clothing partner, is a Horeseheads NY resident (30 minutes south of the Glen). One of Hilfiger's top guys travels with the MBZ team to every race since Hilfiger provides all the kit for the team for the year-everything. "PJ" is one of my brother's good friends and is also working on MBZ to allow it to happen. Michael is cautiously hopeful of course knowing how many hurdles there are to clear but is kind of counting on Lewis' prior run during the "Mobil1 Driver Swap" where he repeatedly said (I heard him once) say he wanted to come back and drive a Cup car there.

^ that would be cool. I wonder if his contact has any non-F1 race restrictions.
Some drivers have had them, heck Damon Hill was forbidden to ride a motorcycle while driving for Williams.

yeah my brother said that would be the likely largest stumbling block, it wasn't the money so much. Michael compared it to having Alonso race at Indy 2 years ago, his presence alone at the race brought attendance figures way up. He's looking to do the same at the Glen's 2019 race. Stay tuned . . . .

One of the greatest all around drivers is Mario Andretti, what's pretty amazing was how busy he was racing in F1/PPG/USAC-Champ/CART and F1 open wheel cars from the late 60's to the early 80's
He couldn't make all the races all the time, but the number of races he drove for those series was amazing.
That was a different era, but Mario was way ahead of anyone else who raced outside F1 even then.

yeah, guys like Mario and to a lesser extent, Dan Gurney and Phil Hill. John Surtees was probably the king of anything that goes fast either on 2 or 4 wheels

Now my brother is in preliminary talks to get Fernando to drive a Cup car at the Glen given the as-expected difficulties of procuring LH's services. Now that would be cool as hell.
