Acura just took the wraps off the 2016 ILX near-luxury sedan in November, but the carmaker already has plans to go racing. Check out the ILX endurance racer, making its debut at the New York International Auto Show ahead of an appearance on the grid at the 25 Hours of Thunder Hill.

Built in-house with “the primary goal of outright victory” at the Thunder Hill endurance race, the ILX features a whole host of HPD improvements, including forged pistons and rods, high-flow intake and exhaust, camber plates, and a rear anti-roll bar. Of course, the HPD wares alone don’t make for a ready racer. The track-ready ILX wears a full custom aero kit, with a deep chin spoiler up front and a suitably purposeful wing in back, along with a full roll cage, gutted interior, onboard air jacks, and racing suspension and tires.

This isn’t the first time Acura has built a full-fledged racer out of the Civic-based ILX: Back in 2012, Acura built a similarly race-prepped ILX for the 25-hour endurance race. Like this year’s model, it had those rad hood-mounted LED light bars for nighttime visibility. Which we think every ILX should have.
