2015 Formula One Fantasy League

Rules for the 2015 Acurazine Formula One Fantasy League:

Rules:

1. You must pick 1 Driver which you think will win the Drivers Championship at the end of the season. You must pick two other drives who you think will also finish in the top three at the end of the season. Selection must be posted in this thread by 2:00am EST on March 14 , 2015, or prior to the start of qualifying in the Australian GP.

1.a At the end of the season you will be awarded bonus points based on the final standing prediction with the following: 10 points if your first pick wins the championship; 15 points if your three drivers finish in the top three regardless of their position; 5 points if your two of your drivers finish in the top three regardless of their position; and 1 point if only one of your drivers finish in the top three regardless of position.

For example:
You pick Hamilton (1), Rosberg, and Perez
At the end of the year, Hamilton is the champion, but Rosberg finishes 10th and Perez finishes 11th. So your point total would be 10(for picking the champion)+1 (for having one driver finish in the top three)=11

2. You must pick 1 Constructor which you think will win the Constructor's Championship at the end of the season. You must pick two other Constructors who you think will also finish in the top three at the end of the season. Selection must be posted in this thread by 2:00am EST on March 14 , 2015, or prior to the start of qualifying in the Australian GP.

2.a At the end of the season you will be awarded bonus points based on the final standing prediction with the following: 10 points if your first pick wins the championship; 15 points if your three constructors finish in the top three regardless of their position; 5 points if your two of your constructors finish in the top three regardless of their position; and 1 point if only one of your constructors finish in the top three regardless of position.

Old Rules: Superseded on 2015-03-10

{
1. You must pick 1 Driver which you think will win the Drivers Championship at the end of the season. Selection must be posted in this thread by 1:00am EST on March 14 , 2015, or prior to the start of qualifying in the Australian GP.

1.a At the end of the season 25 points will be awarded to those that correctly selected the Driver's Champion at the beginning of the season. 15 points if the selected Driver finishes second in the standings. 5 points if the Driver finishes third in the standings.

2. You must pick 1 Team that you think will win the Constructors Championship at the end of the season. Selection must be posted in this thread by 1:00am EST on March 14 , 2015, or prior to the start of qualifying in the Australian GP.

2.a At the end of the season 25 points will be awarded to those that correctly selected the Constructors Champion at the beginning of the season. 15 points if the selected Constructor finishes second in the standings. 5 points if the Constructor finishes third in the standings.

}

3. For each race weekend, you must post one Driver and one Team as your picks for the event. The Driver you pick does not have to be from the Team that you also pick for the event. Selection for each race must be posted in the event’s thread prior to qualifying. "Prior to qualifying" means the official start of qualifying posted by the FIA in the calendar prior to the race weekend. This deadline will not shift in the event of delays caused during the race weekend, such as weather related delays.

4. You can only choose the same driver 3 times for the entire season. You can only choose the same team 4 times for the entire season. This does not apply to the picks for the Driver (rule 1) and Constructor (rule 2) champions.

5. Points calculation will be as follows: Drivers picked for the event will receive points as classified by the FIA after the race results are confirmed. Teams picked for the event will receive 1/2 points as classified by the FIA after the race results are confirmed.

5.a In the event that the race finishes prematurely and the FIA issues 1/2 points, we will still award full points for the purpose of this competition.

5.b If no points are issued by the FIA for a race, we will not award points as well. In which case, the competitors’ picks for that race will not count toward the three pick limit for drivers, and four pick limit for constructors.

5.c In the event that the FIA makes post race penalties, the statue of limitations is 2 weeks from the end of the event or prior to the start of practice of the subsequent race, whichever comes first.

6. Each participant's smallest individual race points score will be dropped from the final points total at the end of the season.

7. Whoever has the highest points total at the end of the season will be declared the Acurazine Formula 1 Fantasy League Champion. Winning the championship has no value, and will not improve your Points, Reputation score, or bank account. Disputes to the game is not subject to arbitration or mediation.

---------------------------------------------

Just to give an example to any new participants, at the beginning of the season, I might pick Sebastien Vittel as drivers champion and Force India as constructors champion, but every race weekend I can pick any driver in the field to a maximum of 3 times throughout the season. Similarly, I can pick any team in the field to a maximum of 4 times throughout the season.

Example of points calculation for a Grand Prix event:
I choose Rosberg as my driver and Red Bull as my team. At the end of the race, the FIA posts the confirmed finish as Rosberg finishing 2nd, which collects him 18 points, and Red Bull cars finishing in 6th and 7th places, collecting that team 14 points. My total awarded points for that weekend would be [driver points]+[team points]/2=[18]+[14]/2=25.

-------------------------------------------------------

Also if everyone that participates sends me there email address, I will send out an email to everyone before each race weekend as a reminder so we have fewer instances of forgetting to make picks. If you sent me your email address last year, then there is no need to resend them to me.

Goodluck to all participants!

it'll be interesting to see how much time the cars picked up over the winter from last year's cars.

Hmm, almost everyone is picking the same winner. Maybe we should pick the top three finishers to mix it up. What do people think?

I'd agree with that
1) you pick all three in the correct finishing order you get the aggregate of 25+15+5=45 for your driver pick;
2) you pick only 1st correctly, you get 25; 2nd correctly, you get 15; 3rd correctly, you get 5 or any correctly picked combination thereof.

45 points is too much for a bonus.

My idea:

Pick the driver who you think will get the championship, and two other that you think will finish in the top three.
  • You get 10 points if your first pick wins the championship
  • You get 15 points if your three drivers finish in the top three regardless of their position.
  • You get 5 points if your two of your drivers finish in the top three regardless of their position.
  • You get 1 points if only one of your drivers finish in the top three regardless of position.

So the maximum total you can get is 25. I figure most people will pick Hamilton + Rosberg, so you get 5 points as an almost guarantee. It's picking the third driver that could be crucial.
This way, it mitigates people all picking the dominant Mercedes drivers, and forces you to think who will come in third.

I meant to post this last Friday, but forgot. uzzmaan did say that he would be traveling before Australia, and we did make the rule change after he stopped posting. So it is really unfair to him to miss out. So I am going to give him the same picks that the majority of the participants made. I'll take a look later this week.

So he's getting Alonso/Mclaren

I'd be fine with letting him makes his picks, HAM/ROS-Merc is already half the choices and they are obvious. Since he's already picked 2 of 6, maybe let him pick 2 more and the remaining 2 be averages or something. He's going to lose this year so it doesn't really matter.
