2012 Formula One Fantasy League
Rules for the 2012 Acurazine Formula One Fantasy League:
Rules:
1. You must pick 1 Driver which you think will win the Drivers Championship at the end of the season. Selection must be posted in this thread by 5pm EST on March 15, 2012.
1.a At the end of the season 25 points will be awarded to those that correctly selected the Driver's Champion at the beginning of the season. 15 points if the selected Driver finishes second in the standings. 5 points if the Driver finishes third in the standings.
2. You must pick 1 Team that you think will win the Constructors Championship at the end of the season. Selection must be posted in this thread by 5pm EST on March 15, 2012.
2.a At the end of the season 25 points will be awarded to those that correctly selected the Constructors Champion at the beginning of the season. 15 points if the selected Constructor finishes second in the standings. 5 points if the Constructor finishes third in the standings.
3. For each race weekend, you must post one Driver and one Team as your picks for the event. The Driver you pick does not have to be from the Team that you also pick for the event. Selection for each race must be posted in the event’s thread prior to qualifying. "Prior to qualifying" means the official start of qualifying posted by the FIA in the calendar prior to the race weekend. This deadline will not shift in the event of delays caused during the race weekend, such as weather related delays.
4. You can only choose the same driver 3 times for the entire season. You can only choose the same team 4 times for the entire season. This does not apply to the picks for the Driver (rule 1) and Constructor (rule 2) champions.
5. Points calculation will be as follows: Drivers picked for the event will receive points as classified by the FIA after the race results are confirmed. Teams picked for the event will receive 1/2 points as classified by the FIA after the race results are confirmed.
5.a In the event that the race finishes prematurely and the FIA issues 1/2 points, we will still award full points for the purpose of this competition.
5.b If no points are issued by the FIA for a race, we will not award points as well. In which case, the competitors’ picks for that race will not count toward the three pick limit for drivers, and four pick limit for constructors.
5.c In the event that the FIA makes post race penalties, the statue of limitations is 2 weeks from the end of the event or prior to the start of practice of the subsequent race, whichever comes first.
6. Each participant's smallest individual race points score will be dropped from the final points total at the end of the season.
7. Whoever has the highest points total at the end of the season will be declared the Acurazine Formula 1 Fantasy League Champion. Winning the championship has no value, and will not improve your Points, Reputation score, or bank account. Disputes to the game is not subject to arbitration or mediation.
---------------------------------------------
Just to give an example to any new participants, at the beginning of the season, I might pick Sebastien Vittel as drivers champion and Force India as constructors champion, but every race weekend I can pick any driver in the field to a maximum of 3 times throughout the season. Similarly, I can pick any team in the field to a maximum of 4 times throughout the season.
Example of points calculation for a Grand Prix event:
I choose Rosberg as my driver and Red Bull as my team. At the end of the race, the FIA posts the confirmed finish as Rosberg finishing 2nd, which collects him 18 points, and Red Bull cars finishing in 6th and 7th places, collecting that team 14 points. My total awarded points for that weekend would be [driver points]+[team points]/2=[18]+[14]/2=25.
-------------------------------------------------------
Also if everyone that participates sends me there email address, I will send out an email to everyone before each race weekend as a reminder so we have fewer instances of forgetting to make picks. If you sent me your email address last year, then there is no need to resend them to me.
Goodluck to all participants!
-------------------------------------------------------
Rule Change 2012-06-20 - Posted above in Red. Previously, the deadline for each race was prior to 5pm on the Saturday of the race, or prior to the start of qualifying, whichever came earlier.

Okay, only four weeks to go before the start of the season.
I'm open to rule changes to spice things up, as long as it doesn't cause me too much work.
Suggestions:

Suggestions:
- At the end of the season, you get to drop your worst race result. Could come in handy for the time that you miss a race.
- Change the three pick limit to four pick?

Personally I'm OK with the 3-pick rule.
A couple of possible ideas:
- Pick the Pole winner for 1 (or 2?) point per race. Separate pick from the race picks; no limit on number of times you can pick a driver to take poll.
- End of Season Championship = 25 if you pick the winner; 15 if your pick is second; 8 if your pick is 3rd. Or maybe 25/10/5. Applies to both driver and manufacturer.
I think either of those would be fairly easy to administer.
I could also support dropping the worst race.
That said, I'd be fine if nothing changed; I'm not dissatisfied with the play during the 2011 season.

Now 4 picks though. I think 3 makes it nice and challenging. And hopefully the constructors are closer because a few of the lower guys picked up some damn good drivers so yea keep it at 3.

Dropping the lowest score is called the "speedemon rule," since you have a tendancy to forget to make picks.

How about increasing the team picks to 4? The drivers are okay at 3 picks, since there are enough drivers in good cars to last the whole season. However, there are only 3~4 teams that get any good results, so by 2/3 of the season through, there are only scraps left.

hmm yea this would be fine. With 20 races means we will be picking the top 5 teams. Keep the drivers 3 though.

Henceforth, it shall be the West6Mulligan Rule.

I'd like to put some more emphasis on the picking the driver/constructor championships to give points to second and third like bearcat suggested earlier.
Anyone else agree??

I think that's a good suggestion. It was slim pickings at year end and the amount of point scored amongst all players dropped off quite a lot.

Okay, looks like we will have 4 picks for each team as the limit this year, keep the 3 picks for each driver.
End of year bonus will be: 25 points for picking the champion, 15 points for picking the runner up, and 5 points for picking the third place.
