Would you guys be interested in a stock picking contest??
 

I'd be happy to set one up on cbsmarketwatch.com if there enough people interested in getting.

You have $100,000 to invest over a time we'll pick and we set up all the trading rules (selling short, margin, cash interest rate, etc).

Please post here if you'd be interested and maybe we could start it up next week sometime.

Yes. This is exactly what I did for two years before buying stocks, and even then, I lost money anyway.

But I've won a few times also. So, at least, I have a clue.

Playing with play money is harmless fun. And, it lets you know, if you "coulda woulda shoulda."

The last stock I dumped, I did on the decline, but I was still $9,000 ahead, over 100% ahead.

If I'd had held another 45 days, ammend that number to $13,000.

I'm game.. that sounds fun.

what would the time period be? a contest for only a month (like you would do in grade school) always seemed stupid to me. i think it would have to be at least 3 months and even then thats kinda short compared to the "real world" investments

Well, I suggested a month because people only have a limited amount of time to dedicated to things like this...

I completely understand that it's not the same as the "real world," but I don't think a 25 year contest would work for most people on the board.
