Volkswagen

Anyone thinking of buying some stock while it's low? It was down another 20% today.

Maybe it has to do with the 18 billion dollars worth of penalties the US auto market is about to hit them with.

EPA: Volkswagen used ?defeat device? to illegally skirt air-pollution controls - The Washington Post

The alleged scheme employed a sophisticated algorithm, installed in the emissions-control modules, that could detect when a vehicle was undergoing emissions testing. The software, which the EPA called a “defeat device,” would turn on full emissions controls during testing and switch them off again under normal driving conditions.

I know that, you'd have to be living under a rock not to know. I was just seeing what people thought the bottom was and if so would they buy at a certain point?

I don't think you need to buy today. This will probably be like BP after the gulf oil spill or Toyota after sudden acceleration. This news story won't go away for a while. I just read that the CEO quit.

I saw that too. Plus if they did it to one engine why shouldn't we assume that others won't be affected as well? I'd be interested to see what else comes with this. I do however think that there will become a buying point. Sucks for the people who just bought shares last week.....

Gone, just like VW's credibility and good will for the next five years or so.

Will it take 5 years though? I feel like Toyota didn't take that long to recover from the acceleration issue. Granted it later came out that it was all BS expect for one case, but that wasn't heavily reported. GM from what I can tell has already recovered from the ignition switch recall. I guess we have to wait and see how long it drags out.

I think it's a great time to buy a VW car if that's what you like. I read that VW used car values dropped 15%.

I wouldn't touch the stock until we get an indication of how sales are affected. Maybe people don't care and keep buying them. I wonder if it will spill over into Audi/Porsche? Will dealers go out of business?

http://www.cnbc.com/2015/11/02/epa-s...iolations.html
The Environmental Protection Agency on Monday issued a second notice of violation against Volkswagen, and this time included a Porsche model.

Monday's announcement adds more vehicles to the list of affected cars, including the 2014 VW Touareg, the 2015 Porsche Cayenne and the 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L and Q5.

The EPA said the German automaker installed software designed to defeat emissions tests on 2014 to 2016 vehicles with 3-liter, six-cylinder diesel engines. In September, the automaker acknowledged rigging emissions tests for four-cylinder diesel engines.

The new notice marks the first time a Porsche model has been implicated in the scandal.

Volkswagen refuted the allegations and said it had installed no software on its 3-litre V6 diesel motors to improperly change emissions values. It said that it was cooperating fully with the EPA.
