Do you trust bank coin sorters?

I always take my loose change and put it in this bucket and every time I fill it up, I bring it in to the bank for cash. This got me thinking. I usually just dump the change into the machine and let it self-sort. Do you think those things scam you? I really dont feel like counting all of my coins but damnit, I dont trust anyone these days.

What are your thoughts?

My bank doesn't have them but I see them at the supermarkets. They charge like 7 cents for every dollar.

I just ask my bank for coin wrappers, count them/wrap them myself and bring it to the bank for exchange. I know I'm cheap like that.

You used to give your bag of coins to the teller person but now they have self coin sorters. Dump the change into a funnel type machine and it sorts it and pays you on the spot.

Fifth Third.

Maybe I'll just take an hour, suck it up and sort the silver at least.

I use to use the coin sorters at the grocery store, but they upped the price on each dollar, so I just head to the dollar store, buy the wrappers, and wrap them myself. I do it about twice a year so it's not a big deal imo.

It's free at my bank, too. I just hand the bucket of coins to the teller and they put in the machine. The machine prints out a receipt and the teller comes an gives you the cash.

To answer the original question....I don't see any reason not to trust them.

Credit Unions have had these for years, now the banks are catching on to keep customers. I'll trust the one's at the banks and CU's. What I like for the one's at the grocery stores, is that you can cash them in for no charge and get like an amazon.com gift certificate, but I haven't used them. Most of the time the extra change goes into my son's bank account.

I think it's more of the one's at the grocery stores as to were the trust comes from.

Never used one. I wrap all my change. I collect coins and have found several old coins by going through the change myself.

I trust my bank. I see no reason not to trust them.

I'm pretty sure all banks have coin counters, but not all branches. Call customer service and find out which branch has one. No excuse to pay for your change to be counted.

Yep, I trust 'em... I'm sure there's a chance for errors, but what are you going to do ?

My bank doesn't have a counter available to the public, and I've got about $800 bucks worth of coins in a big bucket that I've been rolling up slowly...

I refuse to pay 7-10 percent to have my coins counted by coinstar... Maybe I need to switch banks and find one with a public coin counter.

My mom just cashed in a vase full of coins. I took it to my credit union for her so she wouldn't get charged the fee and it came out to $118.01! It's amazing how it adds up.

My bank's isn't exactly public either, only the staff can use it. I just hand them the bag and they run the change after COB everyday and deposit it for me.

Ive always done this...started before the coin counters were ever in the stores, and Im damn sure that Im not gonna give them the money to do it for me.

To make it easier I have four separate cups that I throw my coins in, makes it a million times easier to roll them when you dont have to sort. I usually do it once every year or so, and usually have $300-400

I havent bothered with the pennies in several years and have one of those huge coffe cans full of them....those I plan to go to one of the coin star machines with just because its not worth my time to wrap them all

It really is. My g/f used to be a bartender and would usually bring home 6 or 7 dollars in change each night. She would roll the coins once a year. Fucking insane how much it is.

The machine usually gives me more than I think I have, and if I guess the dollar amount correctly, I get a free prize! How can you go wrong?

The machines are accurate. There is no scam. Why would any bank take the risk of scamming customers over some coins? Makes no sense.

We have those at Great Southern Bank here, Used it last year for my quarters we had, they actually had to come out and change the drop bags 2 times. Total came out to $2,600 in change (money collected from Guest Laundry Machines at hotel). I know the bank manager and he was interested as much as I was to see if the machine was off, took it back to one of their counters and it came out the exact same.

From that point, I decided to that my change will go to that branch as they also get it calibrated 4 times a year.

All it is is a drop bin, that you dump the change into, lift it up as it feeds the centrifuge type bin, and spins out the change to the correct bags, as each coin goes through it counts which bag it went into and what nott

I work at TD (previously Commerce) and we have the Penny Machine... its pretty accurate allthough it does have its hiccups but the machine is tested three times a day for accuracy and if its off by even a cent on one of the test the test is redone up to 3 times if it still doesnt pass then we shut it down and wait for the tech guy.

So yes you can trust the machines they are tested. And TD does offer free coin counting even without an account just a little heads up for anybody with a TD bank around

We have a cheapo coin sorter we use and wrap the coins ourselves. It adds up, but not as fast because we use the quarters for laundry. Plus, now my wife insists on searching her coin purse for change whenever we pay cash. That alone is making me want to always use credit.
