Best credit card to use...

Just seeing which cards offer the most benefits. I currently use a AAA Visa card that gives me 5% credit back on gas purchases. Any other purchases I use a Discover cashback bonus card that'll give me credit in earning giftcards for like Omaha Steaks, blockbuster, sharper image, and others. What do you guys use?

I use my Citibank and Shell gas card for 90% of everything, but, I'm trying to pay it off completely now to $0. Just two more paychecks will get me to pay off ALL my debt.

Did you get the letter about the change in the rebate program yet? They're no longer going to credit your car for the rebate right away. Instead they'll do it the next month. Plus, unless you use your car for a lot of other things every month, you won't get the full 5% rebate on gas anymore. Since gas is the only thing I use a credit card for, I'd wind up getting a 2% rebate instead of 5%. Fuck that. That card's going through the shredder on August 1st.

well if you are pretty stealthy and morally relaxed, I would have to say that the best credit card to use is someone else's.

I cannot stress this card enough to people. The best part of all is the points!! With every other Amex card, you have to pay for membership rewards, but not with Blue!! I took a week long vacation for FREE because of those points!! And what is even better-the points never expire!! You can use the points for just about anything-gift certificates, trips, you name it!

Damn I might have to check that card out next time I get an offer in the mail instead of sending it to the shrredder. Although I am trying to payoff all my debt, then I will start to use it for gas and groceries. I just want to use it for stuff that I would normally have to buy so that I don't abuse it (so I can pay off the balance every month) and I still get something out of it.

That's the best part-for everyday things like groceries and gas, you get double points!!

Ehhh. Couple of things to remember about them. One, you are racking up points on only one airline. Now, if you go to something like Membership Rewards from Amex, than you rack up oints which you can transfer into almost any airline's miles system. Yet another reason to get AMEX Blue!!

people with Amex Blue, when you get your monthly statement, how quick do you have to pay it????????/

I have capital one, and when I get the statement, I have to pay them in 3 weeks, which is good considering I have another pay period that I can use to pay the bill off!!

My most recent bill closed on the 24th of June, and payment was due by the 14th of July.

Is the one...

...that you pay off down to a zero balance each and every month, faithfully.

If my CC bill is $900 for the month and I have $1500 available, I will send that all in because I know I am gonna go throught it. I charge everything. Food, gas, cigs, travel, and I do travel alot.

I like my United Airlines card, even though it has a $60 annual fee. But since I acquired it in 1995, I have enough frequent flyer miles to go around the world.

Twice.

The whatever to 5% cash back cards are probably a good idea, but unlike me, most people try not to use their charge card unless they must. If you spend only $1,000 on credit cards a year, at the top rate, that's only $50. Not enough for two tanks of gas. Big deal. I'll go for the airline travel.

But the cash back cards are not a bad deal at all. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

Amex is amex, and as far as I can tell they've always had great service.

If you look closely at their blue cash program, though, they only give .25% for 0-2K, then .75% for the 2-6K amount, then 1.5% only applied for atuff over 6K. So you won't even make 1% back until you hit 10K spending/year. Add that to the fact that you only get reward cash once per year, so I switched to chase perfectcard. Forget about 5% cashback, that only applies if you have a balance, and the finance charges will completely negate any cashback you could be getting.

browsing the amex web site, one point roughly = half a cent value, which doesn't seem particularly wonderful to me either. That's equivalent to .5% cashback - or am I missing something?

Well, you can;t really look at the point system as cash back-yes they do offer that, but that is not the primary reason for getting membership rewards. Like I said earlier, you get the rewards for the other stuff-like cruises, hotels, gift certificates, etc. For instance, 5k points will get you a 50 gift certificate to most big chain stores.

I agree, if you want cash back, go somewhere else, but if you want the flexibility of the membership rewards, there is only one choice-Amex.

Yeah, I know that that does get anoying sometimes, but that is why I have my Visa-it is strictly a back-up card. However, I find that most places I go do cary Amex, so I really don't use my Visa all that often.
