Applied for a credit card and...

I got turned down for not having enough credit...Im 18 years old and have been using a checking card for over a year. Is there any credit cards that will accept me? I applied for a studen credit card so i don't understand why they denied me. How would I have credit without a credit card to begin with? I mean I have like an Express Card and an Abercrombie Card and those are like credit cards kinda.

What card was it???

The larger banks will more than likely say no, as they don't want to assume the risk.

Are you in college? There are always offers for college students on campus.

Go to your bank and get a card from them the first time. Build off of that.

It doesn't conform to the rules we have set here for avatars.

No NWS avatars. Sorry.

Welcome to the credit world. Amazing how you can't get a card, but someone who's been in the country for 6 months, or soemone who has no job but 50K in other credit debt can

The system is so unfair

Try a few more store cards, Sears, Jcpenny etc, gas card, If you have someone who can co sign that would be great. American express might take you. You have to pay the balance off each month though.

Nudity is not the only form of NWS. Your avatar is not decent for a public forum. If someone's boss saw that at work, I'm sure he/she might very well get in trouble.

Sorry man... It needs to be changed.

1. what does NWS stand for?
2. r0dxx-that is the best avatar i have ever seen
3. Try having your parents co-sign for you on the credit card and then use if to buy stuff instead of cash and make sure you pay it off on time. after a year you should be able to get your own. Or, some companies will allow you to put down a security deposit, like $500 bucks, and that will be your limit, so they can't lose that way, I know that sucks that you have to front that cash, but you have to start somewhere. Believe me, 5 years from now you will be happy you did what ever you had to in order to build that credit status. if not, you will be stuck.

No matter how much self control you "think" you may have, get that plastic in your hands and go . I didn't get my first credit card until last year when I was 21. I my first two car loans build my credit.

everytime you apply for a credit card and get turned down, it takes points off ur credit....so don't randomly apply everywhere, and shit like capital one or something, will probably not take you, because they require that you show good credit already

I think I applied for like 8 different cards before I finally got one (MBNA). And it had an $800 limit.

99% of the time, if you didn't get a response right a way, you did not get accepted. Credit card co's want you to use there cards ASAP. so if they are mailing you something in 30 days, dought you were accepted. But you never know.

good card to get. Don't raise your limit till after you get a full time job. This will help keep you out of trouble.

my first card I got at 18 with a 7000 limit... I wonder why but I still have it today and now the limit is 8000 and there is 7000 on the card... don't get urself into trouble by the way it us a chase i-card. platinum. now i also have a 2000 citi platinum. try those places.

also if ur express card and abercrummy card have balances that might be why u are denied since ur debt to income ratio is to high. to much debt not enough income.

Have your rents cosign one with you. That's how i got my first one. My dad called up his card company and asked to have one opened. They just link them so if any issues happen your rents get screwed. But great way to get in the game. Then after awhile of paying it off every month you can get the link cut and be on your own.
