I'm considering a used TL, 2008, 180K miles (not a rental car though). What sorts of things should I ask about beyond normal stuff. (It's privately owned; not a dealer.) From reading here, I should ask if the timing belt has been replaced; what else? Thank you very much!

you're going to ask used car things...
you're going to have to inspect the car!!! if you arent comfortable with doing this yourself, you'll need to buy a PPI or a pre-purchase inspection at a independent mechanic of your choosing.

you're going to want to look at..
- Suspension...this car is a FWD vehicle and the front suspension takes a beating...bushings, axles, shocks and springs.
- tires
- transmission....is the car shifting properly? does it slip at all?
- 105k service..timing belt, water pump, spark plugs
- electronics (does everything work?)
- does it drive straight? does it accelerate smoothly? does it drive nice on the freeways? no pulling from the tires?
- when were all the fluids last changed? coolant, oil, tranny fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid?
- speaking of power steering fluid, is the car easy to turn at parking lot speeds? any whining while turning?
