2013 National Meet-what would you like to do on Saturday????
Guys,
Here are the options for the Kansas Speedway for the Saturday before our meet at Jay Wolfe Acura on Sunday.
OPTION 1:
The Richard Petty Driving Experience (http://www.drivepetty.com/?gclid=COD...FU6mPAod7xUA9A) is at the Kansas Speedway the first 2 weekends of June. This is when we usually have the National Meet. This way, we avoid college graduations but it's before Father's Day weekend.
For the Richard Petty Driving Experience, we can do the following......
A. RIDE ALONG: This is where you ride along in a NASCAR for 3 laps for $109. If you want to buy more 3 lap packages, you can, for an extra $109. You do not get to drive the car, but this is the least expensive option.
B. BOOK A DRIVE: This is where you DO get to drive the car. But it's very pricey-8 laps costs $449 and 16 laps is $849
OPTION 2:
Our 2nd option is going to have to be a different weekend-away from the 2 weekends of the Richard Petty Driving Experience.
We can get on the Kansas Speedway Road Course. But, you MUST have their fire and safety cars in front and back of us in order to run the course. They run up to 10 cars at a time.
COST: The cost is $5,000 and we can book up to 50 cars. So, if we book 50 cars, each car is $100. But, if we only book 25 cars, each car pays $200. But the hard cost is $5,000-no matter how many cars we book.
What would be our best option for the Saturday before the National Meet???

Both sound like more $$ than I want to spend. I did the Racing Experience awhile ago and while it was cool, I wouldn't spend the $$ again.
I have a couple of other ideas I'd like to sit down to discuss, Steven. Hopefully they'd be a bit cheaper.

I've done the Ride-a-long as well, and it was cool. But I agree with SilverSVT that I probably wouldn't do it again. The Book a Drive would be cool, but it is kinda pricey. I doubt that most would be able to afford doing something like that.
The option of driving the road course would be awesome, but again I doubt that most would be able to afford that cost. I doubt that would we get anywhere near 50 cars to do it to bring the cost down to $100/pp. I would think you might get 15-20 at most which would bring the cost to $250-350/pp.
I thought the past dinners that we have done on Saturday night have always worked out pretty good. As an option, what about go-karts? Are there any nice go-kart tracks in the area? That's always a good time with a bunch of car enthusiasts!

Cruisin'
I've always enjoyed the Saturday night cruise and dinners as well. Go-karts would be fun, other stuff sounds too much for me. I've got my fingers crossed the meet isn't going to be the weekend of June 15-16, I've got a bachelor party in Michigan to go to but you guys do what you have to do!

As I said earlier Steven, if we're looking for an alternative to dinner or something to do before/after dinner...the go-karts would be fun. The place that you linked to seems like it would be a nice place, and the prices aren't horrible.
I'm in for it! Personally I'm looking to put Matt into the tires!
ACBrett...I think Steven is looking at the weekend of June 8-9, so you should be good.

That go-kart idea sounds like a lot of fun, I'm down! Last year's cruise was epic too though, I think we should definitely plan on doing one again if possible. Gotta get more rolling shots from Tyler's crazy ass lol!!

We are definitely on for the weekend of June 7, 8, 9.
We are tossing around the idea of doing a Scavenger Hunt in lieu of the Go Carts.
What do you guys think?

The scavenger hunt in question would be one with you driving around and taking a picture of your car with the item listed. One of the examples would be, a picture of your car next to a fountain. I had the opportunity of doing this a while back and had a blast. And to make it fair for the out-of-towners we would be pairing you up with a local car. It would be timed based (2 hours) with judging afterwards.
I think it will be fun and pretty cost efficient for those wanting to save some dough while getting a chance to see some of the city.
And for those still wanting to do go karts, maybe a few of us can get together after dinner Friday night and do that.

I agree with everyone here. I was looking forward to the Speedway thing, But to dishout 109 is a lot more than what i was planning. Coming from Chicago with a group of guys, the least we want to do is dish-out that kind of money.
We don't mind doing GO Karting, or Scavenger Hunt. Chicago Crew is looking forward to this event.

Steve & to the organizer's.
Chicago Acurazine is looking forward to this event. We already started planning for this trip. Looking forward to seeing all of you again. Hopefully we can get more activities done on Saturday.
Just like you are planning "scavenger hunt or Go Karting" fun...
Cruise, photoshoot, and just hang out...
Just a heads up though...
*** Can you let us know of a near Hand Car Wash??? *** <--- This is important. We always have a hard time finding one...
Thanks...

There is the one that is right across the street from Jay Wolfe Acura. Its kind of crappy but it gets the job done
You should really look into Optimum No Rinse Car wash. All you need is 2 buckets with grit guards, water, and some microfibers. I plan on doing this right in the car lot this year.

Guys, I texted with Jim Mattson today from Jay Wolfe Acura. He has not talked to the owner about my proposal. Plus, the Auto Show is coming up, so it will be next week.
I said I was not feeling good about going from a completely free meet to a completely paid for meet. If we are letting people purchase their own food, there should be no fee for the meet.

Planning on going this year for sure. It is disappointed that they want to charge for being in the meet. That's not right. If they want to charge for the food is one thing but for the meet.

The problem stems from all the no-show's last year. We had close to 80 people register for the meet and a little less than 40 showed up.
That means a lot of food went to waste. Plus, the dealership devotes so much time, effort and manpower to this meet. So they are thinking that if they ask for a nominal fee for registration ($20), more people will show up because they've invested money to be there.
The registration fee would include a free t-shirt. Food will be via a food truck this year. That way, people can get exactly what they want to eat.
So that's what the "totally free to totally paid" means. I'm open for your thoughts and comments about this........

OK I see your point. If you sign up your name on the list you should show up. If the money is being used for what you say then it is OK by me.
This is why i did not committ last year. On the other hand you might not get a large turn out. I like the kart racing idea more than the track run. With the economy the way it is it's to much money.

Is Jay Wolfe dealership still going to offer trophies and/or prizes for the top vehicles?

We just want feedback that everybody is ok with the fee. It will ultimately go towards t-shirts, prizes, maybe a raffle of some kind and/ or food if we want the prize amounts to be less.
Again, we hate to see it go this way, but have to look at it from Jay Wolfe's perspective too. They are putting a lot out there with probably not a great return of $$ immediately as we're not all buying cars from them that day.
To us, the prizes are a bonus . Getting to hang out with friends/ meet new people and look at each other's cars is the main reason we do this.
Is this the same frame of mind as everybody else?

And I think we nixed the race track thing for the same reason Takata said. Karts are still an option, but we have a couple of other things in mind that will be just as fun and on the down low of the $$ side.
Then we'll do dinner Saturday night.
There will be things Friday night for those that are planning on making the trek early.

Steve,
Hows this, I just did a mass text to my chicago crew that always heads up there... 5-7 cars give or take, how about we do a early registration!
Early Registration: $15 dollars SPECTATORS FREE!!!
At the door Registration: $20 dollars... SPECTATORS FREE
what you think...
If we can get that in place, then my crew out here in chicago is a go...
You better come out and play this year... lol Last year you left me hanging foo... lol
