Description:

Selling my Acura TL 2008 type s
Bought the car back in 2014/15 registered it and kept it in my garage as back up car in case my 99 TL broke.

Intention was to use it after I finished school and keep it as my daily car.

So from 2014-2018 car has been in my garage. I would start it up occasionally and do a spin around my street and park it back inside. I would wash it and wax it and kept it covered inside my garage. I would change the oil every 6 months because I wouldn't put any miles on it really. This past summer I drove the car for a short period of time, put on it 500 miles or so.I changed the oil and replaced all the brakes.

I am the the third owner of the car, previous owner had it garage kept and got the car in a minor accident,he was from Massachusetts. He replaced the front bumper got the car aligned and replaced the powersteering hose from recall. Due to that reason the car does have rebuilt title.

The car is excellent all the way around. The rims have minor curb rash, the seats have no rips and are in good condition. I placed cover over them to protect them.
The rear bumper has minor scratch on it. The paint is in excellent condition, and shines very good. Everything else is very good, suspension and etc.

Not in any rush to sell my car, 11,500 or best offer.
currently the car has 51341
not 53000 a typo was made. You can see it in the picture.
I am resident from Connecticut, where the car is located.

Op you need better pics. Clean that badboy up, tire shine, wipe the dsh, show the seats. Just my advice. Take pics when sun is out. ASM looks best in direct sun. Just my opinion

Minor accidents and rebuilt titles don't go together.. Either he didn't tell you something, or you're leaving some stuff out.

So you're telling me that the front bumper replacement caused a total loss on the car

https://www.cga.ct.gov/PS98/rpt%5Col.../98-R-1130.htm

Under CGS § 14-16c, if an insurance company or self-insurer takes possession of a vehicle that has been declared a total loss, it must stamp the title with the word “salvage.” It also must stamp the title or any copy of it with a warning that the vehicle must undergo a safety inspection under CGS § 14-103a to be registered or retitled. If the vehicle has ten or more major component parts (such as the engine or transmission) that are damaged beyond repair, the title must be stamped “salvage parts only.” In either case, the insurance company or self-insurer must give the original title to any purchaser and make a copy for itself. The purchaser's name and address must be listed on the back of the original and the copy. The vehicle cannot be driven on the highway, except by a dealer or repairer to drive it to the safety inspection.

An insurance company or self-insurer can only sell totaled or salvaged vehicles or any parts of a vehicle to a dealer, repairer, or vehicle recycler licensed by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Dealers who have DMV permits to auction vehicles can only sell vehicles with titles stamped “salvage parts only” to vehicle recyclers.

CGS § 42-225 requires dealers to disclose to consumers the fact that a used vehicle has been declared a constructive total loss under certain circumstances. Under CGS § 38a-353, a damaged vehicle is considered to be a constructive total loss if the cost of repairing or salvaging it exceeds its total value. The dealer must make this disclosure if: (1) the vehicle's title has been stamped “totaled,” “salvaged,” or words to that effect; (2) the vehicle's bill of sale states that it has been declared a constructive total loss; or (3) the vehicle's seller or the lending institution that holds title to the vehicle notifies the dealer that it has been declared a constructive total loss.

Under CGS § 14-65 if a vehicle with a title marked “salvage parts only” is sold at auction, it must be sold separately from other vehicles that have not been totaled or salvaged. Under Conn. Agencies Regs. § 14-65-1, any vehicle with a title marked salvage or the equivalent that is put up for auction must pass a safety inspection under CGS § 14-103a. If the vehicle is offered at a dealer to dealer auction, the auctioneer must announce the vehicle's condition. If the auction is open to the public, the auction dealer must make the vehicle available for inspection for at least one full business day before the auction takes place. The dealer also must provide prospective purchasers with a written statement of the vehicle's condition, including whether it is fit for operation. The successful bidder has a right to inspect the vehicle after buying it, and if the vehicle does not conform to the statement, the bidder can withdraw his bid.

Title is branded "salvaged" after a vehicle is deemed a total loss. If the car is fixed, it is given a "rebuilt" title.

Just off the top of my head, I am pretty sure that title classifications vary by state, and may also be at the mercy of whatever shop did the work.

The main thing to consider for the purpose of this thread is that a Rebuilt Title does not carry the stigma of a Salvage Title and should be taken with a grain of salt.

I extracted these two from the link above. As you can see, there is a substantial difference between rebuilt and salvage titles. Also, the rebuilt title mentions "substantially rebuilt", which doesn't look like what happened here.

Googled link to title classifications. https://www.cartitles.com/different-...of-car-titles/

Rebuilt title

A vehicle which has been substantially rebuilt may have a rebuilt title brand issued by an insurance company, body shop, collision center, or licensed rebuilder. A vehicle with a rebuilt title can normally be registered for road use, but may have an inspection requirement to verify it is road worthy. The vehicle insurance may have limits if the title is rebuilt.

Salvage title

When a vehicle incurs some type of loss event such as major damage, theft, or repair, the title may be designated as a salvage title. The decision to place a title in salvage status is normally made by the insurance company who pays a claim on the vehicle. In some states there are statutory regulations which require an insurer to brand a vehicle with a salvage title. An example may be that a vehicle incurred damage more than 60% of its value. However, an insurance company can decide to place a salvage title brand on any vehicle it decides to, even if there is little or no damage. A salvage title, junk title, rebuilt title, or certificate of destruction are almost always permanent brands on the title which cannot be removed. In rare cases a very complex and expensive process of reconstructing the vehicle and inspection may upgrade a branded title status, but it typically involves more expense than the vehicle is worth.Salvage titles can normally be registered for road use. In some states an inspection is required to make sure that the vehicle is safe for the road, and that any parts used for repair are legal and have a verified origin. For your own safety make sure that any vehicle you purchase which as a salvage title has operational airbags and valid documentation of the VIN# and all major component parts.Any attempt to remove, obscure, conceal, or alter a title brand using unauthorized means can be a violation of law often referred to as “title washing” or “title laundering.” The salvage title designation is shared with all 50 states. Evading a title brand is a serious offense. Getting a new title for that purpose is illegal and results is serious criminal penalties.

I bought my car with a salvage title from an auction, fixed it up and had it inspected by the state of New York. Hell they totaled this one for rear bumper and some quarter panel damage. Now it has a rebuilt title. OP may not be trying to pull a fast one.

This.

There has to be more to the story and more that was replace than just a front bumper for an insurance company to total out a 08 TL Type S with 5X,XXX miles..

https://www.autoauctionmall.com/lear...r-connecticut/

The process also requires a number of documents to be provided by the vehicle’s owner including all receipts for major parts used during the rebuilding process. If the part came from a used vehicle, the receipt needs to include the VIN of that vehicle. Major components and parts include transmissions, frames, doors, trunk lids, quarter panels, rear fenders, cowls, and engines. You will also need to have form K-186 (Salvaged Vehicle Repair Report).

Also, you have to have photos of the repaired and replaced parts of the vehicle. The photographs need to show the entire vehicle from each of the corners, show the damaged areas before repairs and after repairs, before painting, sealing, or rust proofing. They also need to show how the parts were attached, such as through welding.

If the vehicle has an airbag, you will need to fill out an Air Bag Certification Statement (form B-303). In some cases, it may be necessary for some of the parts to be removed for inspection.
Did the airbags deploy perhaps..?

Hmmm, interesting, I always thought the trim was faux wood on 3G TLs with tan leather instead of the metallic look in your pictures. That said, I've never seen a Type-S with that color of interior.

All joking aside, nice car! But I can't right now, unless you want the Kia.

Yeah any car that's not a completely clean title is going to be devalued significantly. Along with that odd looking interior color combo and of course it has had an accident history as well. I also have a feeling that the current market is likely unable to support a selling price that the OP is asking for that TL.

Agreed, the interior is all wrong; looks like the car was cobbled together from at least two different cars.

Hmmm, not buying. Why? Because every 3G TL I've ever seen with tan seats also had wood grain trim instead of the metallic trim.

Yeah there's something seriously wrong with this car... The seat belt buckles are black in the rear while the seats are tan.

The front seat bracket covers are halfway off .. all of this aligns with the reason why there's a rebuilt title.. Airbag probably deployed and the accident was bad enough that they had to replace the seatbelts and air bags in the car and seats as well..

The VIN can be used to verify the original interior color but that VIN that you have listed is coming up invalid in our VIN decoder:

Indeed. Let's get the VIN decoded.

Also good catch on the mis-matching seatbelt parts...that's a huge flag and looks quite odd/out of place.

The mystery continues......
