OK...the spare tire question

I just picked up my NEW 2017 ILX this weekend. Black on black... Was not informed there is no spare. What do I do? I want a spare for this car. What size, what rim, what the heck do I need to make this complete? AND....now that I have spent all the cash in my pocketbook...how do I get it all at a fair price? Where and with whom. I am sure I will have plenty more questions as I get to know the car...right now there is 78 miles on the odo.

I bought the spare tire "kit" because a standard wheel/tire won't fit under the cover.

The salesman should have informed you that the car came without a spare. When I got my '16 I made sure that the spare kit was included in the deal. Price was around 360.00 if I remember correctly. Well worth the cost if you ever rip open a sidewall; that inflator kit will be useless.

Its not that the car didnt come with one. The new ilx doesnt have them period. Acura doesn't make them for the ilx anymore. Its been like this a couple years now.

Its not the salesmans job to tell you what the car doeant include. Thats your job.

Op. Search google for a steel spare in the same diameter wheel or go to your local tire shop and tell them you need a spare. Either 17 or 18 dunno what ilx you got. The only other thing you need is a scissor jack. You can find 2ton scissor jacks for about 30 on ebay.

You're correct in that no ILX comes with a spare . BUT as of today Acura's website still lists the spare kit as an accessory- for $369.00. Same price as when I bought my 2016 in April 2015. My salesman did point out to me that the car didn't come with a spare. And they don't even have runflat tires.

I had the same issue bugging me, I drive from LA to SF once a month and couldn't imagine getting stuck with a flat on the 5 freeway on a Sunday night. The compressor won't help for crap if you damage the sidewall of a tire, and it would take hours for a tow truck to get to me. After doing some research I ended up going on craigslist and found someone selling the spare tire kit off a 2012 Scion XB. Brand new never used with the scissor jack and tools, the wheel size and lug pattern is exactly the same as the one the Acura dealer offers. T135-70-D17. They wanted $50 and I lowered it to $35 since I noticed the ad had been up for a month already and I used the excuse that I had to drive an hour to where they lived.. I then bought the tie-down screw/cap from acuraoemparts.com for $11. The foam box that comes with the ILX car doesn't fit with the spare tire, so I just took it off and trunk cover sits perfectly on top of the spare tire. I wedged the tools and jack securely around the tire so they won't be moving around. All for a grand total of $46.

Does this kit in the link include EVERYTHING for $129.81?? Tire on the steel wheel and the jack and all that?

I had an experience where my side wall was ripped open and there I was stuck without a spare, on vacation no less. I never want to go through that again so I'm looking to get the kit for as cheap as possible.

No, the kit comes with the steel wheel but NOT the tire, I can imagine the dealer will tack on at least an additional $150 for the tire.

Thanks for the info! Might try to order that kit and then check a local tire shop for the tire itself, hopefully cheaper than at the dealer.

Good thread, still relevant. I opted for a Honda Clarity spare off Ebay. $175 … Taller than stock, but matches my current aftermarket tire height. Harbor Freight floor jack Aluminun $55 on sale.

Got a spare tire from a RDX for 30 bucks and the jack kit with the foam insert from a 2012 Honda Civic for 25 bucks on eBay. Just needed to trim the foam insert and everything sits nicely with no rattle. Spare rim just needs to be 17” with 5-114.3 lug pattern. Use speed conversion calculator online to match up tire speeds with the donut spare and current tire set.

225 40 R18 - Tire size

There are free calculators online to give you speed difference and height differences. Spare is only .4” taller and speed difference at 50mph is .8mph faster than the other tires. This tire size is a snug fit in the spare tire well so I didn't have to buy the lock down bolt prevent rattling.

OK, 155 70 17 same as mine. yeah, fits like a glove. I put some hard foam on top to prevent the trunk board above from caving in … I always have a bunch of work stuff in there.
