Touch Screen Navigation Lag Issue
I've mentioned it before in these forums that when I first bought this car, it's been doing this since day 1, on top of the Satellite turner recall that was completed when the TSB was released, that was a separate issue.
Here's a video showing how much lay happens intermittently, and when it's starts the only way to stop it is turn the car off to reboot the unit -> https://streamable.com/nccy5 I've done an update to the firmware and the map data, thinking it might allocate the memory better but it's didn't. It's the CAN-BUS that Honda has running too many thing and it gets bogged down. They have used an old version from passed models thinking it would be ok, but when think generation requests too much info it can't handle all the info thus giving less priority to the touch screen. Again another great Honda failure, Thx! Now has 280,000+ KMS I ask that everyone stay on topic!!! looks over at horseshoez Has any1 with a 2016 A-Spec and up till they refreshed the Touch screen unit experienced this? And have they added Apple Carplay and Android Auto in the newer ILX now? would the unit plug in to a 16 or are the wire harnesses different? |
Why are you not using google maps or apple maps that are both better than any auto nav system. In fact car navigation as a feature is totally obsolete

exactly,... I always use Waze which is the heavy version of google maps. tells you where cops, red light cameras construction etc are...The key word out of me preforming an update to this unit was firmware not the maps, as I stated I was praying it might fix the lag, but it didn't, it's all on the hardware side.
Now I want to figure out if the newer unit from the 19 will plug right in the the wire harness of the 16-18 and or whats all in involved. |

I'm not concerned about using the GPS NAVI maps part, I'm talking about the entire unit is laggy as shown in the video in the first post! did you watch it?, (maybe I should have labelled the title better) and sometimes the only way to fix, is reboot ... I don't care to update the maps other then using it to track where I've gone to get back out of an area, set dots where I've gone. Anyways that's not the info I'm looking for bro but thx.
The info I want to know is from any1 that has changed this unit or replaced with an aftermarket knows if the wiring harness is the same as the 19+ as that unit Honda has fix the "lag" issue by giving it a more powerful cpu. If the wiring is the same or is an easy adaptive switch then i'll change my 16 unit to the 19+'s Your points are valid and i agree but I already know all this! FYI; I drive Lyft so Waze is the best of the best! and do everything on iPhone and "jailbroken" at that, and now have 282,000+ kms on this car so any bugs / design flaws with any part of this car I will come across it more so then a reg. average owner. I have a boat load is quirky design issue that i could list out with Honda/aura, I hope are addresses in the next remake. The benefits of Changing the unit will give me zero lag when, trying the change my music tracks, change the sat station, and sometimes not displaying the sat station name. |

I also have a 2016 with the same touch screen and it does NOT lag like yours. Mine is pretty snappy. I did get the TSB performed early on which was the one for garbage characters showing up in the preset buttons. The fix was to basically replace the entire XM unit which lives in the trunk, I think. Are you still under warranty? Your lagging is definitely not normal.
BTW, for the other folks talking about using other mapping software, the 16-18 ILX does not have AA or CP. And I think the factory nav works fine. |
I wish factory navigation wasn't a prerequisite for AcuraLink connected services. Otherwise, CarPlay does everything I need in terms of navigation.
