Hi Guys,

I want to go ahead and purchase some visual upgrades for my 2016 Acura ILX, and I'm curious about where you guys recommend shopping for these parts. Going to the dealership, they quoted me $1333 for the aero kit, which contains:

• Front Underbody Spoiler - 08F01-TX6-2B0A
• Rear Underbody Spoiler - 08F03-TX6-2B0A
• Side Underbody Spoiler - 08F04-TX6-2B0

However, I can get the same online from a non-Acura official website (oemacuraparts.com), claiming they have genuine Acura parts for much cheaper. See image below:



I am looking for the best price without getting non-official parts. Is there any other place where I could look into these options?

I'm going to have to rely on installation by a professional. Are there any good places that someone could recommend? Maybe a chain body shop that might be available in the Ventura County (California) area?

Why are you calling them non-Acura official? They are an actual Acura dealer.

One of the OEM Acura sites (I don't remember if it is acuraoem or oemacura) runs a banner here that says 5% off for AZine.com

Try F5ing a bit to see if you can get it to pop up.

But yeah, I've ordered from all the sites listed in the above crosslinks as well as Bernardi. The prices you posted seem about right. You might save a few tens of dollars shopping around but you're in the ballpark.

Hmm. Now that I'm thinking about it... They might not be site ads but might be Google targeted ads. And since I spend a bit of time cross shopping dealers, their ad might just show on my computer. I tried refreshing a few times and can't get it to show up.

Thank you for the replies. Good to know. Either way, what is a good deal for installation of the body kit? I'm thinking about including the rear trunk spoiler too while they are at it. The dealership quoted me around $500, is this a good deal or should I rather take it to a local shop. An audio shop near by has agreed to take a look at the parts and they might be able to get it all done for me, but I have no estimates yet. Should I trust them?

It's literally screws and double sided tape. You can do it in your driveway.

The trunk spoiler requires drilling (I believe) and the dealership should only charge an hour or two to do that. So maybe $75-150?

I installed the full underbody kit (front, back, sides) on my Accord and had the dealer do the spoiler. No special skills or tools needed.

Hmm, that is reassuring. Did you have to remove the front and back bumper for the underbody spoilers? I looked at the instructions for the installment and they remove the whole front bumper.

Shoot, well, I might take back what I said.

I didn't realize the ILX kit went so far up the bumper like that. I thought it was just the little piece that hugs the lower part of the bumper.

They've obviously changed their attachment methods from what I'm used to.

So I guess it comes down to your level of comfort. Popping the bumpers isn't terribly difficult. Then it's just if you're comfortable following the template and drilling the holes.

Still, *I'd* do the bumpers and let the dealer do the trunk. If you mess up the urethane fenders a little bit it'll be covered by the pieces, no harm no foul. Dicking up the trunk could lead to water leakage and bigger problems.

Yeah, just double checked to make sure I am not making up things. Here is the installation guide and it definitely shows removing the front bumper and a bunch of other things.

It's not that I wouldn't do it, I'm just uncomfortable removing the clips, because I know they are easy to break. I would have to make sure I have extras of everything just to be extra safe. The clips are super cheap, I just know that if I mess it up a bit I will be responsible fixing it. If the dealership screws up, then they will fix it from their own cost. However, the cost is pretty high and I wouldn't mind doing it with them if it would be like $250-$300, $500 is pushing it for me a bit.

As long as your careful, the new style clips are rather 'brake proof'

Just follow the instructions and you should be OK.

Plus, you'll learn a lot about the inner workings of your cars front bumper, rather interesting stuff and a good way to raise your MotoIQ

Thanks for the input Thmanx. I am feeling better about doing it myself. However, do you have any automotive tools that you think would come very handy for me if I end up working on my car pretty often? I want to be prepped for basic work on my car, but I have 0 tools. I know I will most likely need a jack since the ones that come with the cars are usually not so great. What do you think?

Yes. If you're going to be working on your car off the ground, get a hydraulic jack and some stands. The little scissor jacks that come with the car are fine for changing a flat from time to time, but don't trust them.

A basic metric tool set will do most of what you need. Some plastic pry tools commonly called trim removers are good for prying door panels and clips without breaking things. Honda sells a "bitch clip" remover for those sometimes stubborn plastic pop rivit clip type fasteners on the fenders and whatnot. But most of them can be removed with a couple small flathead screwdrivers.

I've gotten by for many, many years with just a basic craftsman socket and wrench set. Add some Allen and star drivers, a breaker bar, a torque wrench, a jack and stands and you can cover most situations.

You'll find you grab a 10mm socket and wrench pretty often.

A solid set of metric 1/4" sockets, wrench, and a few extensions (don't cheep out on them, Get a descent brand like Craftsmen. Good value for the price w/o the professional cost of a Snap-On set).

Set of 5 or so philips and flat head screw drivers of different lengths and sizes (used for trim clips and screw fixtures).

Jack stands/hydraulic jack.


Ohh and you'll need a drill set with some drill bits to install the Aero Kit, i think you end up drilling holes up to like 1/2 an inch or so for the zip-tie thingies to fit through.

And if you ever intend to remove your wheels for suspension/brake work or even DIY wheel rotations. Get a Torq wrench that at least 'clicks' when you hit the desired levels. Don't mess when wheels w/o proper specs... (usually 85ft/lb per lug) otherwise you'll end up losing a tire on the freeway.

Ohh yeah, get a magnetic tray.

Just acts as a great way to consolidate any small bits you remove from the car (magnetic or not frankly). And helps make sure everything you remove, gets installed again. Don't want any missing bolts lol.
