Ok mine sounds nothing like that. There must be a mechanical issue going on. I have absolutely no idea what it could be. Mine is a lot noisier and not in a good way.

^i don't know, it could be...but I have a feeling the dealer is just going to look the other way and say driver error. I fee like it happens when the car is really hot.

Cool In business:

After a long and exciting day, I am a proud and excited owner of a polished metal metallic 2.4 mt 6 speed ILX.

Woke up in the morning and decided to go check out a dealer not to far from me (saw on their site they had in stock the color I most liked) to test drive the car one more time and check out if they can get within the $ range I was aiming for.

Arrived at the dealer, car (polished metallic) was actually still in transit (on truck) which then arrived shortly thereafter I did.

Cut to the chase, VERY satisfied with the deal I negotiated and received. They prepped it and off I went.

I've owned the car for a few hours thus far but let me tell you, this thing is SWEET.

For all the "boy racers" out there, this car may not be for you. The car is classy, elegant, simple, efficient......fun.

Just went out for another cruise in my 6 speed. Slowly getting used to it and liking it more and more. Coming from an Explorer I temporarily drove so its a completely different ride/suspension I'm getting use to.

On my blog I've shared pics and stories for all my experiences with the car so far, including a write-up from this past weekend where I shared my perspective on how I feel about my new ILX in comparison to my tried and true 515k mile 6MT 1994 Legend.

Enjoy!
Did you pay for your ILX or is it being subsidized by Acura?

There's more engine/exhaust sound than I "expected" with this car but it's not gotten to the point that I detracts from the driving experience on mine.

Subsidized. I'm coming from a car that's 19 model years older so the ILX is a welcome upgrade. More details about my car (and my ownership of it) in my "New Owner" thread on here.

Congrats to you for keeping the Legend legendary. And kudos to Acura for punching out of its corporate bubble once in a while to support and acknowledge an individual owner.

Tyson or anyone with a 6-speed, what is the "break-in period" for the car, if there is one? Thanks.

I totally agree. I think that's what Acura loved about my story is that I don't even remotely work for them yet I have an obsessive loyalty and commitment to the brand. I know I'm not alone in that regard. There are plenty of people here on Acurazine who are every bit as "into" Acura as I am, so it's my hope that headquarters will continue to recognize that.

I had the same question when I picked up my car, and I asked my service advisor who told me to take it easy for the first 1,000 miles (vary the speed, no redlines, go easy on it overall). That's what I did.

Also: Contrary to what I was used to on my Legend, they don't do "next due" oil changes by mileage. They tell you to go off the maintenance display percentage in the instrument cluster. When I was at 4,900 miles the display still said 60% but I had the oil changed anyway! Then when it was at 9,900 I had it changed again. I want to take good care of this engine so it'll last 500,000 just like my Legend did. Regardless of whether the computer says the oil is still good to 7,500 or 8,000 or whatever, I'm going to do my changes every 5.

I just noticed a slight rattling noise today going over uneven surfaces. Can't seem to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from. Sounds like something is loose. Tyson or anyone else experience this?

It sounds like there's a lot of unwanted engine noise coming in through the A/C vents or something that ruins the experience. If I build the engine up to about 4K RPM and let off the gas, it sounds like a really loud coffee brewer. Not sure if there's something going on with my car specifically. When I roll the window down, different story. Motor sounds like a diesel engine in low RPM though going uphill. Kinda took me off guard at first.
I also have issues with the suspension making popping sounds from a loose bolt that seems to loosten itself every time a mechanic tightens it.

Today, I happen to notice the "popping'/rattling noise on my car as well. Can't seem to pinpoint exactly where it is coming from but its appears passenger side suspension.

What bolt was loose on yours?

How does your front suspension sound when you go over small uneven surfaces? Like loose (clack clack) type noise or ?

Let me know what your mechanic says if you take it in. Mine was never fixed properly. After tightening a loose bolt on the undercarriage, it doesn't do it as often but it is still there.

I'm 6'5", at the very limits of height that this car will support. I have to have my seat-back propped up in what Delta would consider a full upright and locked position in order for me to comfortably grab the wheel (ability to drape my wrist over the top of the wheel is my benchmark for proper distance). With the seat all the way back and lowered my hair slightly brushes the top of the car which is an acceptable compromise for me. No problems with shifter distance and my knees dont bump against the wheel when I shift. I have different seating requirements since I'm tall I guess. If it fits, it ships!

Will do. Was that the cause of it or was it just an assumption that it may be coming from that bolt?

Also, when you go over small to medium sized uneven surfaces, what type of sound are you getting from your front suspension? Im getting like a soft pop pop type noise? That normal due to the car being so lite or?

No sounds at all. But funny you say that, my old civic is doing that which prompted me to want a new car. Gonna go ahead and say that ain't normal.

Granted I've only done a 20 minute test drive, but at 6'0" I was able to get a really comfortable seating position pretty quickly. Seat all the way down, slid just far enough forward to get the clutch to the floor & I was good. Had enough back seat room that way that I could sit back there comfortably, too.

Pardon my question, but was that you that said there was smoke coming out of your engine bay for some reason?

Thats exactly what I hear. The bolt was actually loose but didn't completely fix the problem.

I went to the dealer today to let them know about the suspension noise and made an appointment for this Thursday to have it checked/part replaced.

On my drive home from the dealer, I stopped by at my friends shop and he put it up on the lift. He did not see any "loose bolts". I then went on a test drive with him to point out the noise and he thinks it may be a faulty bushing/link making the rattling noise.

I guess I will find out on Thursday.

Finally brought the car in today to have the suspension looked at. I will let you know what the outcome was.

I also opted to have the rear deck-lid spoiler installed

Waiting to pick the car up. Have a 12 RDX loaner. Can't wait to row my own gears again Got a decent price with install on it which makes it sweeter. I would have gotten it either way, even if I had to pay the 500+ with install

I've had my 6MT for about 3 weeks. I've driven a little over 1000 miles. I'm very pleased. The 2.4 is the smoothest 4 cylinder engine I've ever owned, and I've had many Hondas over the years - including a delSol VTEC (1.6L producing 160 HP).

My previous car was a Mazdaspeed3. The change to the ILX is like going from a crude muscle car to a refined sports car. The Mazda had plenty of grunt between 3000-5000 rpm, but that's about it, not to mention the black smoke pouring out on full throttle and the soot on the exhaust pipes.

The ILX revs smoothly throughout the entire range. Above 5k, its a screamer. Also, the Acura stick is silky compared to the MS3. Yes, the Mazda is faster from a brute force perspective, but I prefer the refinement of the ILX. Plus, the interior design, fit and finish are in a different class than the Mazda.
