Scratch help

So my dog just jumped on my car and left several scratches down my back door. Does anyone have any ideas on the best way to remove these scratches? They don't appear to be too deep, but have left me very upset and I'd like them gone as soon as possible. Please help!

If they're not "too deep" (they don't catch your fingernail), then you can try using a rubbing compound like Meguiar's Ultimate Compound or Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0.

If they do catch the fingernail, you'll need a machine.

Pics would really help so we know what you're dealing with.

Hopefully it's just some keratin transfer from the pups nails and not actually scratches in the clear coat and/or paint.

If so, it should come of with a mild solvent like GooGone or Isopropyl Alcohol.

Start gentle and work your way up in aggressiveness: citrus solvent, mild chemical, the mechanical abrasion.

Take it to a bodyshop and have it wet sanded and polished out. $50- $100.

Try a really good detail shop, before the body shop... if they can't polish it out, then I'd say body shop is next step... also look into getting the protective films that protect certain parts of the car. I noticed girls were scratching my car door handles with rings... and i guess i did it a couple times too... so had the door cups added, a bunch of stuff added... the trunk strip already saved me a LOT from possible scratches...but was too late for me for the front hood and front portion... has a few tiny imperfections, not really noticeable at all...BUT they would actually look really bad under the film. Oh well...

Body shops are generally bad at fixing paint imperfections. A detailing shop is a much better bet.

He jumped on my rear passenger door right where the body lines meet. Unfortunately they are not very visible in photos, but I have used some rubbing compound which helped fade the scratches some. My next move is to wait till after winter and go for a full detail.
