Putting on mileage, do you have a beater?
So when I bought my ILX back in October I wasn't expecting to make large commutes daily. However, I'm about to move and where I'm moving to my commute will be 100 miles round trip daily. With that that being said, I'm looking at 500 miles a week, 2000 a month, 24000 a year. Now that is just work mileage mind you. Now I consistently read Tyson's blog and it's great to read how dependable our Acura's are, but I'm still bothered by the the idea of putting so many miles on a brand new car, and killing my warranty within two years from now. I wanted to know what you guys think. Do you try to keep your vehicles within the annual average of 12-15k, or do you dismiss that notion all together? I'm leaning more towards just driving the ILX everyday and enjoy the dependability and comfort, but every now and again I think about just buying an older car for cheap and preserve the condition of the ILX for as long as I can.

cars are meant to be driven.
if its not a lease; dont be afraid to put on those miles.
I can understand preserving the vehicle; but your circumstances have changed. why not use the ILX, as it is fuel efficient and is very very comfortable. isnt that why you bought it?
a beater will not be as comfortable as the ILX and will get the same mileage as the ILX.
if the ILX were a supercar; where it wasnt fuel efficient; the notion of a beater car will come into play.
Alas, the ILX isnt a super car but an ordinary point a to b car with a touch of luxury.

I agree. The ilx is the beater. If its not leased dont worry about it.

Sounds like a nice long commute! When I was going to school in northern Utah, I picked up a beater car so that I wouldn't have to put my Legend through the salty road conditions during the winter. The beater (another Legend, but older and poorly maintained) ended up having major issues and I had to part ways with it shortly thereafter. I decided I was better off just driving my 'main' car. Just my experience.

it's a car-drive it
Bought my tsx to be driven not look at. The warranty was used up before the car was 18 months old due to mileage. Was on 3 cross country roadtrips and numerous trips from NC to NJ and back. Have 157,000+ miles. Beater cars still need to be insured and maintained.

Yea, I agree with driving the car. If you want, I'd get something sportier for the weekends, but that's only assuming you have disposable income. But, otherwise, enjoy the cheap upkeep, the great gas mileage, and the relatively comfortable ride.

I agree with all of the above.. when I had a Cobra that consistently got 12-14 mpg on my work commutes it made sense.. But when you already bought a car that was meant to commute in it doesn't make sense.. the only cars I'd be worried about mileage like the others here is a sports/supercar/toy. Cars are meant to drive and I intend on driving my ILX into dust.

It IS the beater. No arguement there.. The only Acura that I see you needing a beater to replace for commutes is NSX, Type-R or any other one you have turned to a race car.. All Acura cars were made for commutes, car designed for commutes = beater.
Like Tyson said too, why incure the maintenance of another car? One of the major selling point for me buying a new Acura was low maintenance and relative cheap maintenance at that.. even with major failure.

Well after considering many of the opinions posted. I think I am pretty set on putting the mileage on the car. Sure it will be a little sad at first to see 2000+ miles added to the odometer month after month, but at least it will be in a comfortable car and I'll be getting my moneys worth out of the car. Thanks everyone for sharing their opinion.

For about $4K it would be modded the way I'd like and be done. $2500 of that would be tires and wheels. Hopefully, by the time I need tires I'll be able to do that. Then it will be a sharper beater!

I drive the shit out of my ilx lol. It doesn't even have a spot in the garage and nor does the 335i. My all motor k24 eg si(for sale) and GSR project are in there. I've only owned my ilx for about 10 months yet I have 16553 miles racked on there already, mostly because I commute from SoCal to NorCal. But you could buy another beater to preserve your miles and warranty if you choose, to each and they're own because we all have different opinions.
