I just called the dealership and they said it was going to be 135 dollars for an oil change. They are claiming that it has to use synthetic oil and that is the reason why its so expensive. The manual states its a ow-20 detergent oil. My rsx cost 65 for an oil change, 135 is something I would expect to be paying for a bmw or a benz.
How much are they charging you guys? 135 seems way to steep for this car, I am probably going to do it myself then.

tell them exactly what you just told us.
tell them that you know what is supposed to go into the engine and it SHOULD cost about $65.
all it sounds like is they are fishing for suckers.
and you are not a sucker.
either tell them how much you want to pay (~$65) or do it yourself.
they are called "stealerships" for a reason.

dealerships are not one corporation.
they arent required to follow or have any uniformity.
the OP's dealership is simply catching the suckers.
Hook line and sinker.

@ the title.
I agree with Justin. You could buy your own oil, oil filter, and take your car to the dealer or an indenpendent shop and just pay for labor. Just keep your receipts. You don't have to go to the dealer to have maintenance done. Getting your car serviced at other places will not void your warranty, just keep your receipts to show proof that you have been keeping up with the maintenance.
IDK if anyone can correct me on this, but I thought 0 weight oils were synthetic, I didn't think they made dino oil (non-synthetic) in that weight.

BTW you can also take your car to the Honda dealer as well.
are you guys getting it changed with synthetic or the manual recommended one? Or are they both synthetic?

Most synthetics are blends of conventional oil.
and the real synthetic stuff is expensive.

$135 is somewhere around what my grandmother's S550 costs for an oil change. No way I'd pay that much for an Acura oil change. Maybe in something like an NSX, but even then, that's high to me.
Another reason I do my own.

Question: whats the difference between an S550 and an ILX?
Answer: one holds more oil. 9qts vs 4qts.
Question:if 5 quarts cost on average 40 dollars; where is the other $ going?
Answer: in those Mercedes Tech's pockets
if you buy your own oil and do your own maintenance; there isnt a reason to spend upwards of 100 on an oil change.

Yeah, I figure that's part of it. Labor rates a little higher at MB.Originally Posted by justnspace

Not sure if they still use the canister filters that my old Benzes did, but they weren't cheap either.

OP-did you ask for an oil change or did you ask for an "A" service? the semantics is what will dictate price. ask for an "oil change" and it'll be around $45 or $70 for synthetic. ask for an "A service" and you'll get some ridiculous price like $120 or $135 like you were quoted.
i ask for an oil change. not the "A/B service" most dealers do a courtesy inspection anyway (which covers some of the items in the B service).

You can buy a 5 quart container of Mobil 1 0W-20 for around $23.00 at Wal-Mart. Get a good filter, like the Purolator PureOne for about $5.00 and do it yourself. You'll save a bundle and be certain that the car has the right oil and filter. You'll save so much that you can buy a pair of light weight ramps and tire chocks (about $50). The ILX 2.4 is an easy car to do.

semantics. WE know the A service is an oil change...other folks may not be so incline to in tune with the codes. Call back and ask for an "oil change an ILX." i'll bet that the price comes down to what everyone else is saying it should cost.Originally Posted by ads

I do it myself with mobile1 0-20w synthetic. Spent 27 dollars on oil at Walmart and 7 dollars for the Honda filter. Easiest 15 mins of my day.

absolutely right. I called and asked just for an oil change and it came down to 68 i believe. Weird how that worksOriginally Posted by TLtrigirl

I did it myself today, super easy and literally took no more than 15 minutes. Does anyone know anything about Bosch oil filters? That's the only one they had plus microguars.

Since the car is so new and it's still under warranty(even if it wasn't) I'd only use honda oil filters.
Advanced
I live in the SF Bay Area, where things are much more expensive than the national average, and my oil change was only $80 for synthetic oil. I would check a different dealership if I were you.
Ironically they sent me a complimentary service a voucher in the mail right after I did my own oil change -_-

Bosch filters are fine, as are pretty much all name brand oil filters. Don't be swayed too much by the chatter that claims that this or that oil filter is so much better than another one. The roads would be littered with blown engines if any of them actually didn't do what they were supposed to (and though I can't speak for right now, historically, Fram was the OE supplier for Honda).Originally Posted by ads

$135 for a oil change with mineral oil is a joke lol
My Acura dealer charges $50, which includes, tire rotation and a car wash.

Gonna go with my Royal Purple and an Acura filter for this one, too. I've used it since I had my third gen RX7 in '93. I was working for Mobil at the time. We used RP in some of our rotating equipment in the plant, go figure. It'll be just fine.
Cruisin'
Does anyone know if you need an oil wrench for to change the filter on the 2.4 or do you think I can get away with just a strap wrench? Think it'll fit?
