ILX Oil Change

Whats up fellas!

I am doing the oil change on the wifes ILX and wanted to know if there is anything special that I need to do or look out for? The dealer wanted $80 which we all know its a rip. So opt in to do it myself, as I always do my car anyways.

Is this pretty straight up and simple on the ILX? I noticed that there is no DIY site here.

So far I have researched and wanted to share the reset:

1. Press the Start/Stop button once (do not start the engine).
2. Use the INFO (▲/▼) to highlight the CUSTOMIZE SETTINGS menu and select using the SEL/RESET button.
3. Select the MAINTENANCE INFO menu using the SEL/RESET button
4. The oil life reset mode is displayed on the multi-information display.
5. Select RESET with the (▲/▼) button, then press the SEL/RESET button. The displayed maintenance items disappear, and the engine oil life display is reset to 100%.
6. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset. -

Got it from http://www.oilreset.com/blog/2013-ac....oO9uDF9J.dpuf

Thanks and sorry if this is a repost!

hahaha I had to look that up myself. I was surprised to see the mpg reading reset with the oil life indicator. Oh well. Since my oil change Ive been getting 2.5 more mpg. Love it.

It's a pretty straight forward oil change. Id wait until 7,500 as that is what Acura advises (not what my dealer advised but they want money so go figure). Grab some synthetic oil and you're good to go my friend!

We do. When I hit 7500 my indicator dropped to 15% and a service reminder came up.

Thats why I dont understand why others are doing it so early.

Are you saying people are doing the change at 5,000 because thats how cars used to be?

I understand that but honda and acura uses a really great break in oil. You WANT to leave it in until more like 8,500... no longer than 9,000.

Every 5,000 is fine, a bit overkill, but fine.
But the first oil change should really be held off until at least 15% oil life or until 7,500. Whichever comes first.

It's like someone not used to the cold water goes in slowly to get adjusted. Waiting until 7,500 is like wading in until your nips then dunking under whereas waiting until only 5,000 is like jumping in with only your legs wet.

In the end you'll adjust either way. But it'll put a little less shock on your body (engine) if you go slower.

15% or 7,500 miles. Whichever comes FIRST.
Neveronline, has an oil life low indicator come up?
Id wait until 10% maybe then get it done. No way Id go under 10%
Mine hit 15% literally at 7,500 which was when the indicator came on. So I have no idea if the indicator is linked to the mileage or the indicated %

No the indicator has not come up yet and i checked the oil and it looks good. I am planning to wait till between 10% and 5% to change it unless it gets low

the reason why I asked about the oil life indicator is because people have different driving habits.
it calculates based off of engine revs, starts and stops, and other factors.
some people could be hitting >15% in less than 7500 miles.

Neveronline, myself Id go til the indicator comes in at your point. If it got to 10% and still no indicator I'd have to judge it off my miles so far. If I was only at 6,000 by then I might wait until 5%. If by 10% I was at 7,000 Id go for it. No way Id go past 5% though regardless of miles. If the indicator hasn't gone off by 5% Id probably call my dealer.

Well in reality I wouldnt call my dealer Id do the oil change and hope the sensor is working fine. Id only call my dealer if I HAD too.

The indicator or warning message comes on automatically at 15% to let you know oil change is needed soon. If the display gives you the mian code 'A' then you need an oil change. The on board computer wont tell you you NEED a change until it reads 5%

That % is mainly influenced by the miles on the car like any other car. However there is now no longer a required maintenance schedule. The onboard computer attempts to calculate all this for you and will tell you what you need when you need it.

The computer looks at temp of your area, temp of the bay, engine load, as well as driving habits. The climate may change your oil change intervals from 6,000miles to 4,000miles in colder weather.
Also shorter trips constantly will result in lower oil life.

Also, the system tries to judge when other maintenance issues arise like a tire rotation, fluids, breaks, etc.
A problem I see however if this...
If you need an oil change at 7,500 the system will throw you an "A" indicating you need an oil change only.
If you needed a full maintenance, it'll throw a "B"
It can also throw sub codes with number values after the A or B... 1-tire rotations, 2- drive belt, air elements, etc, 3- tranny fluid, etc.

Problem arises when you need an oil change at 8,000 instead of 7,500. You are now close enough to the 9,000 mark for the tire rotation that the onboard computer attempts to make things "easy" for us and tells us we need a tire rotation 1,000 miles early to save us a trip to the shop.
I understand this may be more convenient for some but not for me. Looks like Ill have to keep my own eye on the maintenance stuff.

WHOA WHOA.. Bit of info NEVERONLINE. Our systems DO NOT read for low oil levels, only deteriorating quality.. which as we've stated is based on mileages and other readings, not actual oil tests.

So checking oil regularly or checking for leaks is a good idea still.

Lol dont worry usdmJON I never rely on idiot lights, I check my oil every other fill up, old habits die hard and my B Series and my LS-V both used to burn oil so I checked them often.

JMJ3rd = not really I mean I got off the line fast but I shift aroun 4/5k most the time unless I want to hear the N1. I drive surface streets to and from work because the freeway is too inconsistent so that's probably got a lot to do with it
