Finally stepping up

So I decided to bite the bullet and get my car a little earlier than expected. Picked up a 2014 BWP ILX 2.4MT this past weekend. So hard to find this color in the 2.4 trim. There was only one within a 300 mile radius of my area. Love the feel of the clutch and shifter of this car especially coming from an old 1998 Dodge Neon R/T. Most likely will keep it stock for awhile, maybe a couple aesthetic mods and a drop in the future.

The baby ILX now.

The neon, on the day, I traded it in.

Managed to rack up 310,668 miles on the Neon.

Only time will tell if I can get to that mileage in the ILX.

Congrats, they say newer cars are easier to hit higher mileages right? I guess if it's taken care of it should. Nice car although time will tell of you "only" do aesthetics.

I want to do more than just aesthetic mods like an intake, exhaust but being a college student, funds get limited.

What? Thats crazy. My dealership had mostly 2.4s when I purchased. Hence why I got a good deal on my tech.

Odd. Most ILXs I see at my gun range, and the one up the street, are 2.4s. Hmmmm. Must be the area.

Must be the area. My Acura dealership had 6 in stock. 1 being the 2.4L and luckily was White. Still had the plastic wrapping on it so hadn't even been on a test drive.

Congrats on the car, I love the white as well. I might have a small scratch, but I can't see it!! Best part

even when my buddy was buying his TSX there was literally no 2.4's and a ton of 2.0's. A few hybrids

I been lurking mostly since I'm keeping my car mostly stock since I've outgrowned the modding bit.

Btw, nice progress on your build, looking good! If I ever make it out to GTA again, maybe I'll meet up and check out your whip! When I'm there I'm usually near the PAC mall times sq. markham area...

Only thing I've changed on my car is white LED plate lights, yellow drl/fogs and eibach rsb. Prob switch to a kn drop in next month when I have to change out the filter.

The dealerships in my area all carry black. A few reds, blues, and silvers but mostly black within a 200 mile radius of me.

Thanks a lot. Saw the mileage your legend and wanted to push the neon more but I thought it was time for the girl to retire.

Just finished breaking in the engine this week. Got the 600 miles over with! Finally got to feel the Vtec kick in for the first time.

First thing I did to the car was plastidip the "beak". Wanted a slightly more aggressive look to the front end.

Also bought some led bulbs for the license plate, reverse lights and a set of Piaa plasma ion yellow bulbs for the fogs but haven't gotten around to getting a photo of them yet.

I notice the rear likes to flop a bit when going around corners or even bends on the highway. Did a little research and noticed the RSB was a little too small for this car. Debating whether I want to upgrade to the 2013 SI 18mm RSB which I can get a pretty good deal on for everything (Endlinks, bushings and the RSB for about $90) or just save up and just get the Progress 22mm RSB. What do you guys think?

Go 22 (between those 2). People are already doing the 24mm. Thats seems like it COULD end up doing some subframe tear out. But if you get lower tie bar or subframe brace it would most likely help prevent that. That IS specifically what the subframe brace is designed for, and the lower ti bar more, well that'd be more of a side effect.

Definitely get the rsb, I got the eibach 19mm and it's a very noticeable upgrade
Maybe instead of the 13 SI rsb, get the 14 version since I think it went up in size, think 20mm? Not sure too lazy to google. Good luck on whichever one you decide on.

19 and 20 would work great.
I'd probably opt to go as small as possible that still has some good bang to the bucks. So 19mm is probably perfect unless the car is actually being tracked.

I took a look at the 2014 SI model and it did get bigger at 20mm. Would it be an easy swap like the 13 SI if it's just the RSB, end links and the bushings? Is it also ok to have both the rear and front to be both 20mm?

It's going to change the handling characteristics. It's your preference though. Larger front sway bars will increase understeer. Our heavy nosed fwd cars with front mounted engines tend to already have a lot of understeer so we replace to larger rear bars first.
Figure out the stock front vs rear size difference and maintain the same size difference. If you want more understeer then go a larger front.

Well I finally got around to having some spare funds to buy a little present for my car. Got around to ordering the 2014 SI RSB and just picked it up today! Measured with a caliper and made sure it was 20mm. Half the price of an Eibach 19mm and slightly thicker. Can't beat that deal.

Here are the part numbers if anyone plans to order the same bar in the future.

Next week I have my car scheduled to get tinted 35% around except front and roof wrapped gloss black. Can't wait for that day to come sooner.

Got up early today to install the RSB and boy does it make a difference! It feels so much more planted over bumps and during corning. Makes you wonder why Acura didn't make it like this from factory.

told ya it would be a noticable upgrade! glad to hear you like it, it should be one of those must do mods for any ilx since stock comes with that wimpy 14mm! and it's really not that expensive whether you go with the SI, eibach, etc...

Nice whip man! I've been contemplating on RSB for a very long time. After reading your write up, I decided to go with the same set up.

How long did the install take? Its pretty straight forward?

It took me about 2 hours by myself. Could be quicker I guess if there was a 2nd person. It was pretty straight forward though. Just didn't expect to take off so much to change the RSB.

I followed the steps from the 9thgencivic thread since our platform is the same.

Hey looks like I got a twin!
Just got mine done last month. White and black is one of the best combos. Thanks for the review with the rear sway bar. That is one mod i've been wanting to do since week 1 with this car.
Did you order the parts online or from the dealership?
Sweet ride again!

I had a friend of mine who works at a honda dealership order them for me. Thought I needed to get end links but he checked and the end links are the exact same ones from the 2014 Si. You should really get it since it changes the driving characteristics dramatically.
