Auto Dimming Mirror Upgrade on 2016 ILX

I have a 2016 ILX (Acurawatch Trim) and was wonder if its possible to install the auto dimming mirror to my car? I didn't know if there needs to be any special hookup or power supply to the mirror.

Thanks!

I believe any autodimming mirror does require power, to alter the movement of the electrochromic fluid which dims the mirror. So power and ground. There is also a third wire you can hook up which un-dims the mirror when you put the car in reverse so you can see more clearly.

The lower trim didn't come with the auto dim mirror. I'm not sure why they left such a small detail out.

Another cost-cutting measure; to keep the base model price low.

I hate the auto dimming mirror. Makes night driving with tinted windows seem way too dark.

You and OP should trade mirrors!

Easy fix, just get black electric tape and cover over the two sensors. If done right, it shouldn't look too bad.

Ive had been driving at night with all 5 tinted windows and auto dimming mirror for a couple years. Never had any issues. Multiple times I was glad they were there due to all the lifted truck with aftermarket HIDs in my valley.

Yep, I'm actually happy I have it, and sometimes even though I have limo tint and dimming mirror, I feel like they are still too bright, especially the lifted HID trucks.

I believe that would cause negative effects. If I cover the two sensors, my mirror would always been dim because the sensors would believe it's always dark out.

I ran into a similar issue when I tinted my windshield. My auto headlights turn on a lot sooner because my tinted windshield tricks the sensors into believing it's dark out when there is actually plenty of daylight left.

I had to turn the Auto Headlight sensitivity all the way down.

Hmm, I have my windows limo tinted and I noticed that the only time my mirror dims is when there is a direct headlight behind me. When I cover up the sensors, all of a sudden the dimming goes away. But you still might be correct, because I don't know if there is still a bit of dimming at that time or if it actually went away completely, because I see a huge difference in the dimming going away when I cover the sensors.

I wish my side mirror dims. When the person behind me on the next lane over forgets to turn off their high beams i have to re-position my head to not get blinded, its ok i just let them pass me and blind them back for a couple mins .lol
