I agree!

The 5-year total cost seems quite economical (in a good way).

How do you guys think the value -- trade-in or private sell -- will hold up in, say, 5 years from now?

I think the resale is going to be there ESPECIALLY if Acura actually throws some more weight behind this car. A lot of people literally get confused when I say I have an ILX. They think RLX or MDX for some reason. Although I have heard Acura ILX commercials on the radio (honestly I don't think most people listen to the radio anymore) and seen tv commercials, MOST people I come across are oblivious to this car's existence, even "honda heads". I think once the TSX is laid to rest (NOOOOO) then the newer models will have more features, maybe even trims. Maybe then Acura will actually make some window visors for the ILX, and some other random accessories. A few years in, the aftermarket support (which is barely here right now, and mostly for the 2.4) will have a lot to offer. If it goes like that, resale value will be very high.

and I would say trade in/ retail value would probably be like this - 1.)-2.4 liter/2.0 tech package. 2.) - 2.0 liter base/hybrid tech. package 3.)-hybrid base. Mostly because even now, I don't think people are really sold on hybrid. If they are, they're mostly looking for prius's. And the 2.4 will have at least a few car magazine covers by then, people are gonna take at least a few of these pretty far.

Total Agree with aomechmarine. If the aftermarket companies start to jump on board the resale value should be great especially with the 2.4L (will always have a bigger tuner crowd like the SI vs. EX civic). Different animal but my buddy just sold his bone stock 2006 RSX type S for almost $13,000. 8 Year old car that used to sticker at $24,000. Civic SI's were ranked as a top 5 "sports car" in terms of resale value for 2012 - so that also helps considering they are VERY similar cars

haha yeah maybe I was reaching a little with magazine covers, but for sure a couple will get magazine coverage in 1 to 2 years. right now i'd say its mostly honorable mentions so far. Although SlaamedILX is talking about some big plans... His hood was off on the last picture, VERY curious to see what that was about. The ILX endurance race car used the same hood for racing because they said weight savings from aluminum to carbon fiber was minimal if any, while the aluminum hood was actually structurally more sound. They just custom vented it. Read up a lot on the 3 big SEMA ilx builds so far - ILX endurance racer, The matte orange gold one, and the blue one. They blue and orange one had basically the same type/level of mods. The endurance racer mods were not practical for a daily driver.

Today I dropped off my car for cold air intake test fit. My first go fast part! Tomorrow I get it back. This month I should also get my exhaust, and test fit for the prototype set of visors for the ILX. Next mission is suspension. probably springs maybe coil overs, and Also want to get the color matched body side molding and I'm thinking about getting the front lip, but I really want to get the full aero kit (cheaper altogether), so I may wait on that. Later wheels and then supercharger. Then air suspension. In that order if I can open my wallet that much LOL. Hey john if you keep modding your car magazine coverage wouldn't really be out of the question. Not that you care, i have no idea if thats a goal for you. But not too many people are going to mod the 2.0 within the first 5 years of production (my opinion). A turboed 2.0 would stand out a lot from the crowd. To be honest, I saw your car featured on some honda website when you first did your lip mod.

Yeah the editor asked me if he could use some shots. I was happy to help.
A magazine feature isnt exactly a goal but Id be ecstatic if that happened.
Rumor has it the 2.0 will be gone soon so I agree not many will have work done. The point pockets made about the 2.4 being far more desirable as a tuner car is very true; so chances are those tuner mags wont care to cover an automatic... unless i find some VIP style mag... but in that case I am only an entry level so I dont see them picking it up either. lol

So I guess if anything I could see it in a VIP style feature. But no way it would hit Honda Tuning Mag, SuperStreet, or anything like that.
