I'll even make this easy for you...if you decide to do the sidemarkers, might I suggest you use OEM S2000 amber? Or the CR clear ones??!?!? If you decide to go that route, I'll give you a very precise measurement on what size your opening should be. Easy peasy.

Without you guys Id have no real threads to look at. Just will these wheels fit and plastidipping threads.

Here are the clear OEM Honda "club racer" edition side markers, better to go with this than amber so you can put whatever color LED bulb in you want...

That goes beyond personal style and taste or willingness and ability to pay for something into what I'd consider blind stupidity. No offense to you personally but I have a risk vs reward calculation in everything I do and costing $1000 to rectify changing tastes or a poorly executed mod isn't something I'd go at all willy nilly like that.

I was hoping to go with bags, but then I realized it was gonna be about 5 g's... I actually have it saved already (a lot more too) but I didn't slave away for a few years to just dump it overnight on my car... (although I would secretly love too). I got a lot of big plans in the future. The car I plan on riding to death for the next 10 years or so. Right now Im a kid in a candy store. I got like 3 big life opportunities available right now to me. I could use my GI bill right now and eventually work my way into Med school(and then back into the military). I got offered a job as a Corrections officer, good solid job for the next few years while I keep going to school part time (to finish premed, then DR, then military). Or I could also go EOD tech - childhood dream of being a real deal GI JOE on the frontlines 24/7. They need EOD Marines real bad (always). Right now they'll give me 15g's cash (if i make it through the yearlong school), and then I can volunteer for a 5 year assignment to MARSOC (Marine Corps special Operations Command) - which I will 100% get because I'm not married, no kids, barely any family, good credit (haha) and I have an excellent service record (if I do say so myself). And I'm in the reserve now. So if I fail out (entirely possible, super hard school) I would just get dropped back to my regular reserve unit. It's part of the reason why I got off active duty. Wanted time to just chill and be a bum for a minute with my family. My cousin was with 4th LAR (google it) reserve unit. Then he got activated and assigned to a full-on Force Recon unit (original Marine spec ops unit. He died in Iraq. Left a widow and 4 kids. The thing is, all the badass spec-ops jobs have super high death rates. Im not joking. You can google navy deaths right now by rating (job) and #1 will be SEAL (by like 90%). Yeah they are some of the most BA mofos alive, but that doesn't make them bulletproof. There's a reason they call them suicide missions. Just saying, Shit gets real, people die. Its a lot to think about.

Brother, nobody would call you a pussy for NOT signing up for option 3. I have ex brother in law that was forced recon and he survived, but he did not come back the same person. In addition, you seem like you're pretty smart with your money but don't let the 15k tempt you. I'm sorry for the loss of your family.
Being a little older, I would urge you to strongly consider options 1 or 2...wifey was in training bureau in corrections and it seemed like a fun, constantly changing environment but honestly, given your background in the military, that'll always be something you could fall back on. I say option 1...go be a Dr. Make all that Dr. money then get the Dr. house and car and wife. Life is good

Pockets, I agree...I'm not saying he should or shouldn't do it. I'm just saying think long and hard so you don't have to go blow a ton of cash to fix it. Keep it simple like Jon...lower, wheels, tint, maybe a sub upgrade, hid bulb upgrade, hid fogs...led all around. Cost effective and easy to swap to another car or sell.

@opboarding - To be honest huge offset herra-frush wheels or super cambered wheels would not make this car, they would ruin the car. But eventually some nice wheels would tie it all together with nice lowering. Right now i'm pretty whack with my 4x4 offroading stance going haha... I think it will end up being coilovers tho.... but ya never know, i'm still not gonna write off bags.... just depends what job I end up going with in the near future...

In Japan i saw amazing VIP cars - all kinds man. They werent all on bags just because hey were VIP/ VIP style - some were even just on springs. It all depends on the overall fitment/flow of the car. Depending on bodykit size/ wheel size/ and then the lowering fitment relative to that. Also depended on the vehicle itself. They have A LOT of really small cars that were only on springs, looking like lowered Urkel mobiles haha... Daihatsus...

Not a chrome fan but it is your car.
I don't get the JDM life when our cars are in the U.S and when the car isn't even a JDM Domestic model/ based of one/ isn't form the early 90's.
But it's your car and you should do what ever make you happy! I mean.. I'm a guy who wants to put a 2.5L J25 V6 paired with the 7G Accord V6 Hybrid system in a CR-Z with SH-AWD and add a sunroof (a targa top if it was even possible)... I have some CRAZY Honda fantasy builds haha. I also wanted the J30 with J32 Type-S Heads in a ILX when it first came out.
But all of that involves the exterior to look clean, OEM and 'normal' like it could come form he factory and someone else would think that they could find one similar if they looked around long enough.
BTW, if you're looking for side marker turn signals, why don't you just get RDX/MDX/ TSX/TL side mirrors with the turn signals in them? It's cleaner and OEM and would be wired the same as you would with side markers.

@Timmy - yeah thats what Im talking about dude - thats a pretty good upgrade idea! Yeah the JDM sidemarkers are also on a lot of VIP builds tho. I do realize that our car is USDM, CDM, and MDM only tho, but authentic JDM parts used to upgrade the car is still pretty legit. I just did a quick search and found that I could get the power folding TL mirrors (with the markers) from CDM. "Big" issue tho - the mirrors are literally massive... would probably look weird on the small ILX... people kept saying they looked massive on the TL - that car is 2 sizes bigger so I dunno...

I was actually thinking about side markers too because I loved the way they looked on my 98 Civic. I'm not crafty enough to pull it off on my own though. In terms of side markers I think the s2k does have nice ones, or maybe something like the g35s? I also like the placement and shape of the 3 series markers.
As for the chrome, I'm not a big fan, and I'll probably black mine out eventually. But if you like it bro, then by all means, rock that shit hard. At the end of the day, we all want to be head turners.

hey veedub (others as well) are you going to get the window visors I got test fitted for? Because they are going to come with chrome lining. Tho really, if people don't want them with chrome MAYBE I could get them to make them without the chrome. I'm pretty sure he said they'll be around $70-$80 bucks so without chrome maybe $60-70 bucks. I do understand that some people don't like chrome or whatever, and If most of the buyers are not going to want the chrome on there anyway, then why not keep the price down right? Plus then people who still want chrome trim stuff could just go buy the trim online or whatever. I personally would not, the chrome along the top offers no protection from dings or whatever.

What I would be more interested to see is either a swap from 2nd gen TSX (doubtful) or custom mod to have LED side mirror turn signals - a feature (among many others) I thought should have made it into on the ILX
You might want to get the side marker and then use scotch tape or something and try putting it in various positions to see which one seems "right" to you.

I did think it was too high at first, and also too close to the door, but then looking at the badge I was like ... meh... it'll work... I didnt really notice the door handle thing. Thats a pretty good point. I'll take a look at a few different cars and stuff, to see placement trends. This thread is definitely giving me some results.

Random ILX'ers say - "WHAT?! Chrome visors?! SWEET! DUDE!" - "Hey you guys - Come on I think maybe we SHOULD get chrome visors only for the ILX! More Chrome! Thanks AOMECH!!!" - "Come on you guys how bad can it be? I'm thinking of chroming my ILX out..." - "GUYS GUYS - without the chrome this car looks LIKE SHIT!!! IT's FUCKIN HORRIBLE!!! CHROME EVERYTHING!!!"

Personally, I think that the 3G TL side markers will look too large on the ILX and make it look off... The S2000 ones look like a good size

VIP is NOT about the chrome and other decorative things.
It's about the crazy fitment and how boss the car looks.
My car has chrome door handles, and chrome badges, but that's it.
Fellow So Cal folk. The 2GS moved here and lives here. All 3 are static btw, top 2 are retired.
If you do get sidemarkers, you need to get clear ones. Amber is a color you would never really see on a VIP built car.

The chrome or gloss black or matte black decorative stuff is a fashion trend WITHIN VIP styling tho. True it is not what VIP is about. I have seen many VIP cars that have only 3 basic things - really nice bodykit, wheels, and good stance/fitment/lowering. Interior styling is also subjective as there are many trends as well. Pillows, tables, luxury stitching, wood grain floors/dashes, swarovski crystals, carbon fiber, LEDS, fur, I've seen a whole bunch of different stuff. I am trying to go for VIP styling, however my car is not even close to that yet, although OTHER people throw that word around. I usually say I have VIP interior or Junction Produce interior. I don't feel like thats a misrepresentation.

Also left out custom sound/ICE and performance mods. I will say that USUALLY (performance) is the last priority of the VIP project owner/ builder. The visual aspects seem to be more important, although I have seen IS300's (LOVE that car) that are both drift and VIP builds. The wheel fitment in those cases are functional, yet look great. I myself am against HERRAFRUSH. Extremely slammed with huge staggered wheels on a FWD car? That not only does the opposite of improve function, it looks stupid.
#78
Three Wheelin'
Thread Starter
And to further prove my point about HERRAFRUSH - in the video you posted - there is a car pulled over and the occupants are outside of the car looking at it. Probably because they were so stupidly low, that they damaged their own vehicle. That is dumb. Daily driver cars need to maintain functionality. Although most of these cars did look super nice, I can't hate on that. But a couple were kinda bordeline distasteful. The huge pipes? That looks dumb to me, however that IS a legit trend in VIP (older cars).
#79
Performance is definitely not a last resort for VIP guys. Nor is an aggressive wheel set up the only thing they care about.
Long story short, Japanese gangsters started the VIP scene trying to make incognito cars that could roll under the radar and wouldnt get pulled over after cops started profiling race cars. They wanted to mimic presidential rides and limousines.
In my opinion..
Fitment didnt catch on until VIP became a trend and people had money to throw at it.
When fitment became a HUGE factory the whole stance scene cropped up and now the two scenes are kind of hard to distinguish sadly.
Stance is cool. Just take any car and fit the most aggressive wheels possible on it.
But VIP is basically what you get when a show car and track car have children. Its all about show but VIPs are often running crazy power as well.
Looking back again where VIP started, these were tuners at heart. You better believe their cars were as fast as they were sexy.
As for the video AOmech just posted about, running that low on a daily driver is perfectly fine on air ride in my opinion. Ride a little higher and park laying frame.

I mostly agree with what you said. But just to clarify, I meant to say that engine tuning/ performance was last on the list/ order of precedence. I didn't mean that they don't do it. I meant that many times its the last thing they mod. Like how most people IMMEDIATELY lower their car. I usually see that to most tuners, that is a must-have first mod. They love that low life mang. And although most of those guys were scraping, thats whatever. I don't think that is necessarily dumb. I'm saying use common sense. If shit is getting damaged, thats dumb. Who does that impress? WTF?
