when shifting manual gears, very occasionally there is a grinding sound when shifting into 1st or 1st to 2nd gear. any idea how to fix this? still in warranty, 96000 kms.

where is the grinding noise? in the clutch? in the shifter box?

if it's grinding in the shifter box, you might want to drain the transmission fluid and fill it back up with Honda stuff.
if the synchros are far too gone, a synchro rebuild might be in order

 

thx for the reply...really, it's more like a whining sound when in the 1st gear, lasting only for a second or two, perhaps when turning or on an uphill...as it happens only when changing gears i presume the noise is produced by the clutch, perhaps the push bearing...need to do something as the car is still in the warranty, but barely at 96000kms...really want to know if this whining sound is common to all ilx's dynamic manual drive and whether i should worry about it

 

but thats why I asked where it's coming from...
warranties will not cover wear and tear items....

if it's a throwout bearing in the clutch, just get that replaced....

if it's the synchros, drain fluid and fill with Honda manual transmission fluid.

 

thx...as it's still in the warranty i'll take it to the dealership and see what they recommend; i believe that the clutch push bearing is under warranty but the plates are not (wear and tear)
