2016 ILX: Musty weird smell under acceleration
Hey All!
Background
2016 ILX with 6000 miles
South Florida 80-90 degree temps and humid
Anyone else get a musty smell under acceleration, called the service rep and he mentioned it was "normal" happens mostly under modest and heavy acceleration
thanks

When you use AC, turn off the AC but leave the fan on for a few minutes at the end of your drives. This helps ventilate the system to dry it out and prevent the musty smell from returning. Your humid climate makes everything worse too.
First thing to try though is to run your system on a heat blast (full heat, full fan) for a few minutes and then return to non-AC cold fan. If the musty smell has diminished or disappeared, that's a good sign that you just needed a quick drying of the system. If it's not gone, I suggest you follow that thread posted by AZuser. I've done a poor man's method before on an old car using a 50/50 vinegar and water solution as well as a bleach spray type solution (careful not to use too much, as you're carrying these bleach particles into the cabin and at your upholstery). It works for a period of time, but will return if you don't continue to ventilate your system after AC use.
