Uhhhh, I might make a recommendation to stay away from that Amazon.uk version. The image of the case's back side looks like it says it's a region 2 release. You're going to be SOL when you try to play that here in North America.

If you go to the RFD site linked above, there's many pleased North Americans that have received the disk from that site already. I was weary of that at first but after reading several pages of testimonials it appears that the provided image is incorrect. It even says on the product description that it's region free.

Isn't the PS3 region free, assuming that's your BD player?

I have also been using Planet Earth as my go to for demonstration of the Blu Ray Player. The Fresh Water episode is pretty good with the waterfall shots, etc. I just got the set though, so haven't made it through the entire documentary yet. And yes, it is four discs, I got the BBC Version w/ David Attenborough. As Ken already stated

David Attenborough > *

I've pledged not to purchase many BD movies and signed up for Netflix...

BUT - I had to get Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, Baraka (because of all the talk here) one other movie I can't think of right now. Iron Man is the one that comes out to show it off.

Just watched The Dark Night last night and it was amazing, as well.

i just recieved the set from the UK Amazon that I ordered back on December 27th. for about $40 US after the currency conversion...it's a hell of a deal. 5 BR disc set and each episode is 10mins longer than the US version and David Attenborough does a much better job of narration than Sigourney Weaver.

I'm using the PS3 for playback on my 720P HDTV and the picture is absolutely amazing.

no regrets on this purchase at all...

I have the HD DVDs of the US version, and that is four discs, so I'd also assume BR is four discs.

Well I have to add another title to the list of demo material. Based on a couple of mentions I saw over at AVS, I received the Glacier National Park Blu-Ray from Wilderness Video. It did not fail to live up to expectations. The time lapse and aerial footage (about 1/3 of the content) are really good image quality. Of the remaining 2/3 of the content, half has excellent IQ and the other half is just jaw dropping.

I've viewed this disc about three times now and each time I'm looking at one of the jaw-dropper scenes I can't help but thinking "That's exactly what my eyes perceived when I was there at the park." From what I can tell on the web site, I believe the jaw-droppers were sourced form 4K footage captured on a Red.

http://www.wildernessvideo.com/video2.html

If you want to see the type of stuff that's on the disc, the company has quite a bit of low res sample footage available via the "HD Video Demo" link on the left.

it depends, there's a few different versions of the BR. The American version is only 4 disks, the UK version is 5 and is apparently region free.

Just ordered that UK version on Blu Ray, it should only cost me a few bucks more when it's all said and done.

Just got a ps3 and lovin' it. The only BD movie I have so far is Transformers, and I think it's a decent system show off flick. Surprised no one has mentioned it.

I just did a little research into M&C and found the following review:

Seems that the video quality isn't bad but you may want to whip this disk out to show off your surround sound system.

It's a harrowing, brutal battle whose effectiveness hinges on its soundtrack; I can't imagine Master and Commander as a film carrying nearly that same visceral impact if I'd been using the built-in speakers on my TV. The encounters that follow between the two proud warships and a struggle against a crushing typhoon are every bit as impressive. Master and Commander uses its score sparingly, but the thunderous snare also sounds tremendous in this lossless soundtrack, and the intertwining cello and violin as Aubrey and Maturin unwind are rendered absolutely beautifully. In a word, this DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack is perfect.

My bad. I just looked back at page 1 and found them. I can't wait until I can afford a new receiver with Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. For those that have it, is there a quick way to switch between Dolby Digital and Dolby TrueHD during a movie to be able to hear the difference side-by-side?

Yeah on the PS3 you can toggle it during a scene. I was watching Batman Begins and forgot to switch to the track. When I did it's like if I had hit the unmute button.
