Want to buy a 65" TV

Samsung 65" Class (64.5" Diag.) 1080p Smart LED HDTV UN65H6203AFXZA

My question is, should I buy now or wait until Superbowl time. Have any of you tracked prices and waited till Superbowl time to buy the TV? Was it really cheaper. I am looking to buy from Costco since they give a 2 yr warranty.

How much you paying? Why not go 4K? Prices are $1500 for 4K when on sale.

I am on Comcast and they do not broadcast in 4k. Also looking at the 65" Vizio M series which is about 1100...

Might as well go 4k. I did, why spend a bunch of money on a 1080p tv and turn around and buy a 4k a few years later, might as well pickup 4k now. Netflix has a few 4k titles and they look really nice!

If your 1080p tv is working fine now I wouldn't be in a rush to jump to 4k but if you need to get a new one then just go 4k IMO.

Amazon Prime video has started streaming 4K too. How much is the TV now? Might want to check Slickdeals.net, best place to track deals/prices.

Crap, Stunna has muddied the water. LOL! Costco has a 65" JVC at $1700. I researched it and JVC is made in Japan, which to me is a good thing. Anyone have any thoughts on a JVC?

We bought a Samsung Smart TV from Costco last year just before Christmas, when it was supposedly marked down from the regular Costco price. A couple of months later, the exact same model was priced at the regular Costco price-- Costco wasn't kidding.
YMMV; good luck.

Also the 4K up-conversion works well. BestBuy has some good deals sometimes that you have to catch. I know before Xmas deals were a 65" 4K Samsing for 1.5k. I'd stall and wait cause they have those deals once a week.

Someone else mentioned it but get on slickdeals and tag a few keywords of the tv you want so it will email you. There are a crazy amount of TV deals on there it seems so it will pay to wait and see what you can find.

Other thing I did was go to the post office and get the moving package and use the 10% off at Best Buy.

Smart move. But with Costco, I get 2 yrs warranty. If I bought the 65" Vizio M series, it is 1100 with 2 yr warranty and 90 for an extra 3 yrs... The cheapest 4k I have found is Costco JVC 65" at $1800.

I've always found good deals on TVs around March. You've got kind of a lull in TV buying after the Holidays and the Superbowl. It doesn't make much sense for retailers to cut prices when demand is the highest. They might cut prices slightly to outpace competitors and then advertise the savings, but I think the industry as a whole enters a lull in March.

Come to think of it, I think all of my TVs were bought in March, except one which was an open box I came across in September.

I'd wait. CES is around the corner. I'd want to see what standards, if any, the manufacturers settle on, as well as possible changes to the display.

Real 4K is 4096 x 2160 while 4K UHDTV is at 3840 x 2160. Some say tv manufacturers could up the resolution. LG has already come out with their DCI 4K monitor which has a resolution of 4096 x 2160 so it's possible LG could have a 4K UHDTV with a 4096 x 2160 resolution planned too.

And what if Apple actually comes through with their long rumored tv plans. A 5120 x 2880 resolution tv like their 27" retina iMac would be awesome.

There will always be a better/cheaper TV. These things are as bad as phones. My 720p is just fine

I'm not sure about discounts on TVs around the Superbowl, but if you want to wait to potentially save $100 - $200 (I imagine), and can wait then go for it. But, if you're looking for a nice TV for a nice price, that can be had now.

My recommendation:
Samsung Curve 4K UHD (7200 - 7250 Series). Great TV. Have it at Costco. Relativity "inexpensive" for what it is. We have the 55" and love it.

see my thread for my 65" purchase back in September... purchased at Costco for 1400 at the time... non 4k, but i'm using an hdmi extender over Cat6, so wouldn't get the full benefit of 4k anyway... it works for me, but TVs get cheap after a few months when a newer model comes out...

4K is a gimmick right now, still mostly hype. Sure, in the coming years it will be more widely available, but if you want a big screen with a quality picture at a good price, get 1080p. Fucking Sammy was selling their 4k screens with HDMI 1.4a input.. hellooooo...

that's exactly why I didn't get 4k when I was in the market... it will probably be a standard in a few years... but by then I can upgrade to a 75"
