I've got my sights set on the Harmony 880, but $250 is pretty steep. Though, I can probably sell my Home Theater Master MX-700 on eBay for about $170 +/-

I got the Philips TSU3000 last x-mas as a gift. I got it programmed pretty good but I'm too lazy to really make it jump up and dance for me. The only thing I have a problem with is the touch pad. Its not as responsive as I expected.

Right now I've just the unit that came with my Rotel. I'd like a Harmony 880, but I think I may see if i can't turn my X60v PocketPC into a reallllly powerful remote - since ive no other fucking use for it

I purchased an MX 3000 Universal Remote that has RF and IR functionality. The cool things about the remote is that it will control all my lights, temperature, shades, & all through a completely customizable interface. It's touchscreen and has a charger, all my equipment can be hidden in the closet and I can literally just carry the remote room to room and use it for my in-wall music system by Abus. You can even have title pages and complex macros. I just downloaded a template for the comcast DVR it's neat having one controller for everything I highly recommend it.

Damn Ernie... that's hot.

One thing about the universal remotes is that i find it to be a royal pain in the ass to program all of my components. How are these remotes (MX 3000 or the Harmony 880) to program... b/c I'm in the market for a universal remote.

Thanks

The MX3000 Has a windows utility to program it and if you go to www.remotecentral.com you can download other peoples templates.

I have the Phillips Pronto. It can be programmed to do anything that can be done with an IR remote.

I almost went that route but RF is just soo appealing. The MX 3000 does IR from RF I just bought a maestron dimmer from Lutron I am hoping to use it with the system.

I like the RF part of it too.... it's soooo nice to not have to open all the doors to expose the components just to watch TV. I'm doing some research on eBay and found a seller that ships them to you pre-programmed.... so I'll look into that as well as that website.

Good stuff

I wonder if Maetro has a fan dimmer as well... our room has a fan.. one switch for the fan, one for the light... that would be sweet to control both from the remote....

I'm thinking of a Harmony 880. There's a $50 rebate out now that expires in late April. These people have it for $170, so it's $120 with the rebate.

Does anyone have it? I'm a little wary because some reviews complain about a cheap feel and some problems with buttons. Is there anything better for <= $150?

The Harmony 890 does IF/RF as well. It's around $400. I'm thinking of getting an 880 - although the RF is appealing in general I still have to be able to see my components to really know what is going on with the system - especially with home theater id10ts in the house always messing up the settings.

Philips MultiMedia Control Panel

what do you guys know or think about this one? I'm getting kinda annoy with all my controls... my experience in the past with "middle of the road" universal controls... wasn't all that great... I find that I would still have to keep the original ones near by for certain features/buttons that the universal one wouldn't "learn", which just defeats the purpose... I want to be able to complete put the other controls away...

it's got some wifi feature...

I had the Phillips Pronto Pro TSU6000 and hated it. It constantly froze and I had to constantly look at the screen to find buttons. I ended up getting the Home theater Master MX 500 and haven't looked back.

I don't think so... I think the whole idea is to make things simple... by having extra hardware would shy away consumers.

I ordered the Harmony 880 for the price mentioned above, expecting to save an additional $50, but then several days after I order I get this email:
Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your recent order with (site name removed).

Your order included a Logitech remote, for which a $50 rebate was listed on our site at the time of purchase.

It has come to our attention that Logitech has recalled the rebate, and that Logitech may or may not honor the rebate.

We just wanted to make you aware of this, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Well after living with the Logitech 880 for a few weeks I am finally starting to like it. It took me more than several visits to that crappy configuration website to figure out how to get the devices to work the way I wanted. Now that I have it setup and have a couple of custom functions on the LCD, its good.

The button placement on the remote sucks though. They went for a sleek look over user ergonomics.

I would not buy this remote to run a Tivo. The Tivo remote is much better.

...just the thought of having to deal with the set up... makes me wonder if it's even worth it...

Right now... I have a little decorative, wooden... treasure looking like box... I use to "hide" all the remotes when I have people over... it's on the coffee table... I might just settle with that... it works fine

OK I've had my Harmony 880 for a few days now and I figured I'd post here again...

I have no problem with the buttons. I don't know what people are complaining about.

The screen is obviously a cheap LCD but the size & resolution are OK. I wish there was a brightness/contrast dial or something though. Seems a little too bright. I downloaded a .zip from some site with tons of channel logos and menu backgrounds so I've customized it somewhat and it's really cool.

The setup was painless, but my Sharp 32G4U doesn't seem to have discrete codes for input selection, which makes changing inputs hit or miss since it's got to cycle through all of them. This kinda sucks.

Overall, if I get the rebate honored () it'll be $120 and I think that's a fair price. Not good, just fair. I buys me the ability to get rid of 4 remotes and hitting 5 buttons to do anything, and makes it easy for company to operate the TV. If I don't get the rebate it would be $170, which I think is too much. This remote retails in most places for $200+, and I think at that price it's probably not worth buying.
