For the people who have larger LCR televisions and have them on stands, what are you using? I need to find something for my new 940C. I am renting, so mounting on the wall is out. Thanks for the help.
I bought this for my 64in plasma. It should easily hold a 75in TV as well. The thing is built so solid that once it is build it took 3 of us to pick it up and move it. Most solid piece of build it yourself furniture I have ever seen.
^ That's a nice looking stand, the reason I got mine, was 1 because it was black 2 it had the hang on feature, but it also had the option of being a stand like Colt's without the hanging in case I needed it down the road.
The issue I had with my Sony is the stand is super wide (14" if I remember), the box was freaking mammoth because of this. A definite plus though since the panel was shielded from bumps and prods.
I liked several modular ikea stands but they weren't wide enough. I think most stands would work as long as the width / weight isn't an issue. New big screen LCDs are relatively light to some of the early backlit LCDs. I think my Sony is only ~90 lbs.
The stand I chose has several configurations, below is a 4 panel, I went with 3 (gloss gray, not turquoise) with 2 doors that slide at the end (covering 2 modules at any time). What I also liked about the modules was the rear panel cover was just thin particle board. Easy to make cutouts for AV wires. Super configurable.. definitely worth checking out and fairly inexpensive depending what kind of buildout you're planning. There are some very ornate configurations you could do.
I about fell over when I saw the price this time. When I bought it last year I paid $523 for it and got a $50 statement credit on my discover card for spending $500 at overstock.com. Not sure what the heck happened. I will never buy anything from overstock though except during one of their holiday sales. It really shows you how much markup they have to play with.
I did buy the low level TV stand though because I eventually hope to wall mount my TV about 5in above the entertainment console. I prefer it as far back from walking dogs as possible.
I don't think I could ever justify more than $4k for a TV. No matter how much money I have.
Anyway, that's one baller ass TV OP.
When dropping $8k on a TV I don't think I'd batt an eye at mounting it on the wall and paying to fix the inevitable damage when I'm done renting... Lol
I am here until my lease is up, then will be buying a house. Then this will go up on the wall. Just can't have it on the wall here where I am at now,and just to let everyone know, I did not pay $8K for this set. Thanks for the help.

It is going to be a challenge when I go to buy a new TV since there are no more plasmas. I need to find something that can keep up with fast motion and not blur. I could find nothing but plasma that doesn't blur with hockey pucks, auto racing, and some plays in football besides plasma. It just is amazing how clear it stays. You just can't find something that does all that cheaply from my experience. Still wish I would have bought a second F8500 while they were on the way out.
I wish I had bought the biggest Kuro I could have. But LCDs have come a long way. The weight/heat/power consumption of plasmas leaves a LOT to be desired.

Some people have tried to tell me that with 4k the motion blur is not noticeable on led and I hope that is the case down the road when I need a new TV. I wonder if you get blur with a projector?

does Moore's Law apply to TV's?
every 2 years, TV's get more awesome!

I am sure it does to a lot of aspects of TV's. However, the one thing I am unsure of is the speed at which they can display the picture. Plasma are 600hz and led are 240hz. Led TV manufactures use software to try and reduce motion blur. Personally watching TVs with that affect on just makes it worse when watching thing like sports.
I have not watched a live hockey game on an uppper end 4k 240hz TV yet so I can't personally comment on whether or not it isn't an issue anymore. The fact that even 4k is still only 240hz though worries me. Make me a 1080p 480hz TV instead.
