Sonos Playbase

So, I started to look more seriously at getting a Sonos Playbar set up...and then I saw they have a new Playbase. Anyone have any experience with how this one sounds?

On the Sonos community they make it sound like the Playbase has a little more lows than the Playbar does. That being said, I would go Playbar if you have any interest in mounting the TV. Either way, you probably can't go wrong with Sonos. I can't wire my house easily, so it's a no brainer.

Just saw your post in another thread. If you're planning on the Sub, the Playbase and Playbar are identical for your needs IMHO.

Yeah, I eventually want to go with the 5.1 setup. But I had read the player had lower lows and higher highs.

I initially wanted to wall mount a player...but Im not sure I would be able to get a clean wireless looking install based on how my wall currently set up to run cables, etc through the wall. And I think the playbar looks cleaner and less conspicuous sitting on top of the media center.

Kinda have a hardon for the white playbar/sub over the black.

I haven't fully researched this system because the price threw me off and yeah you get for what you pay for. Do the speakers respond to voice commands like an Alexa speaker? I know the Sonos speakers will blow it away but was just curious how far along the Sonos tech is functionality-wise.

So, the down side is some of Sonos tech is lagging behind the times. So, I believe they are compatible with Alexa or Google Home, but do not have it built it.

I wish it had HDMI, but other wise...a 5x1 4k hdmi switcher with IR, will let me have all my stuff hooked up and still be able to use my Harmony remote for it all.

Yeah I've had Sony sound bars 3.1 for years with 3 HDMI's that support DTS-HD/TrueHD codecs and BT and they typically cost around $300. Granted the wattage is likely significantly lower and doesn't nearly as good. Do you need such awesome sound in the bedrooms and other rooms outside of say the kitchen and main TV area? I didn't want to get drowned out while watching TV in my room because my kids are listening to music in their room. Honestly even the sound bar I can hear from downstairs while I'm in my bedroom with the door closed. I was planning on just dropping a few Alexa Hubs in some rooms so that the sound isn't terribly loud but they can also use the voice feature.

I'm just over having large speakers in a small condo. I dont think the sound ever balanced well, and I'm not running wires to the rears this time around... I could get a wireless kit from best buy for $99 but for what? shitty rear sony satellites that I have had for nearly 16 years now. Not worth it.

Are these things 2.2 HDCP compliant? Might as well futureproof.

Oh it's not even HDMI right. I don't think it matters with optical.

It doesn't...just another cable/input. I think I got rid of my optical cables years ago.

I know the Sonos doesn't do DTS...but they are aimed at the streaming crowd and that is pretty much what I do these days. I haven't bought bluray in years, and dont watch the ones I do have very often. Everything I do revolves around Apple TV and that is DD5.1. So, its good enough for me on that front.

Kind of ironic that the cinematographer is fine with streaming video quality rather than dropping thousands on the latest and greatest

The quality of streaming has become really good.

Fact is, with lack of standards etc. Trying to keep up with the "best" is a game of chasing your tail and constantly dropping thousands of dollars. Unless you have a shit connection or the film was a bad transfer in the first place, most people wont know any different...even if they are saying they do.

And I still a metric crap ton of movies in the theater.

You can't get more source material than a theater viewing

Dig it so far.

Had to order the sub since no one stocks the white one.

Did the Best Buy card to get 10% back in point. So, I bought this, the sub and one sonos 1 surround. And the points/rewards will get me the other sonos 1 surround for nothing.

How does it sound? Does it play nice with the Harmony?

It does play well with the Harmony.

As for sound, I don't have the full set up yet, just the playbase...and I have to say I'm impressed as hell.
A good movie for sound can show it off...but its real specialty is music.

I never updated this but I've had the full system for a while now.

While not perfect...I like it a lot. Its much cleaner aesthetically and the playbase is powerful and the sub and surrounds add nice ambience. The sub fits under my sofa...so I get a nice rumble under my ass for big action sequence.

I was watching an action movie one night and we had a small quake...And I was half on/half off the couch because I couldn't tell if it was the action scene that was on or the condo was shaking
