Samsung HL-T5676S 56" ultraslim DLP

Think I narrowed down my new TV to this model. Lowest price I've seen is on Amazon for $1,516 with free shipping. What do you guys think of the price and any other sites worth looking at?

That is a great TV! At my work we sell tons of them. If you buy that TV off Amazon, there is a good chance that I personally would ship the TV out myself. See I work at the biggest electronics warehouse in the US. Amazon, among other companies, i.e Circuit City, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. contracted us the sell products for them. When you buy things off their websites, the products actually come out of our warehouse in N. Scottsdale.
Anyways back to your ?, yes that is a great TV!
Samsung is the leader in HDTV's now! We ship 10 Samsungs for every other brands 1! Their tech support is also #1

I know a lot here are more into LCD's/Plasmas but this is a great price for a 1080p DLP. The general consensus (per my reading) is that Samsungs and Toshibas make the best DLP's. 3 HDMI's is the icing on the cake.

If you google the model, you might be able to see other reviews from more tech savvy people and/or pricing.

^ thanks. Yep, the price is what sold me as well as the reviews. I'm not 100% yet, still need to play around with one more @ the local best buy before I place the order...

Planning on putting this on a stand adjacent to the fireplace so having a slim depth is sweet.

That's a great TV!

However, I know of a deal on a 1080p 70" LCoS TV for $2200 with free shipping. Can you fit a 70" TV? It's about 20" deep. Still very slim for a 70"!

LCoS > DLP; no color wheels, and no tricks (wobulation) to do 1080p like DLPs have to do.

Two different models same prices...

Hot TV! I'd get it in a heartbeat if I were you

The one's Siggy posted are sweet too, but I just haven't had good personal experiences with the JVC TV's... so b/c of that (and only b/c of that) would I shy away. I know that their newer sets are likely better then the one's I have seen so it may be an option. I know I'd love a 70" set... especially for those prices

Holy shit. That 70" is tits. 2k is a lot of money but for a 1080p 70" anything it's a fucking steal. How is LCoS different from DLP? I may be sounding retarded to you here but I haven't heard of it.

It's the wrong thread for this post. But I'll answer you, lets just not keeping this going. Google is your friend

LCoS is basically tiny (like the size of your thumbnail) LCD panels. JVC puts 3 of them in there. One for red, one for green one for blue.

LCoS has a lot of advantages over single chip DLP...

*It's a true 1080p, not wobulated like the DLP is (dlp simulates 1080p by doing wobulation) google it.
*With LCoS all 3 primary colors are on the screen simultaneously. DLP simulates color by alternating the backlighting color rapidly between the primary colors. The end result is it tricks your eye into seeing color. And one negative to it is is everyone will perceive the color slightly differently... and some people see rainbows. Until DLP goes 3 chip it will always have this problem.
*LCoS covers more of the NTSC gamut color chart than DLP does.

So major advantages? true 1080p resolution & better color

Blacks and shadow detail (subcontrast) are about equal between LCoS and DLP. A good DLP set will be as good as decent LCoS.

Those are the major differences. There are pluses and minuses to both... in the end the edge goes to LCoS since it really isn't cheating as bad as DLP to make 1080p happen. And it's not simulating color...

In addition to the TV, I'm thinking of getting this audio setup:

Got a quote for installing all the audio, setting up the TV for like $350. That's including fishing all the wires because for the wall mounts. I think this is fair... but not totally sure since I've never done, or had someone do this kind of thing...

I don't have any experience with that particular model, but I have both a 42" and a 50" DLP, both only 720p, and can't say enough good about them. Love my Samsungs. With HD, you can't get any better! Also, I purchased the 50" through Amazon and had no problems.

You should also think about getting one of these if you don't already have one:
Universal Remote

I do, but I also wanted to see who you were using incase it was Magnolia home theater, they did part of my install, but the rest they were suppose to do, lets just say I ended up canceling cause they either got the date wrong or didn't show up. I ended up getting a refund I was so pissed.

Most of Samsung's remotes are pretty good at learning other components' codes. They have a new "Anynet+" feature that even learns to turn on all the appropriate stuff automatically when you hit the power button.

Provided all your stuff is Samsung of course.

I guess it's implied by what you posted but to put it explicitly another advantage with LCoS is that it does not have a color wheel like DLP (non LED driven); so its another mechanical part that you dont have to worry about failing years down the road.

so is this TV good? I'm thinking about jumping on this offer at BestBuy for the HL-T5076S (1080p), XBOX 360, and Halo 3. The Sammy comes out to $1210 for the 50". I checked it out in person, and it looks great, and is definitely pretty slim.

this isn't the newer LED based DLP though, correct? So would it be a bad decision to go w/ this since it is a color-wheel?
