home theater receiver help

hey guys, I"m new to the home theater stuff and was hoping for some suggestions for a good receiver for me and my roommates.

me and my buddies are in college and staying in an apt together. we're looking for a good/reliable receiver that would be able to handle small tasks such as for playing Halo 3 and that kind of stuff. We got a price range of about maybe $100-$300 ($400 tops).

thanks for any suggestions on brands/models of receivers. If I didn't supply enough information, let me know and i'll reply asap, thanks again!!!

i think you're in the wrong section but sony and yamaha or pioneer is good. make sure it's HD so it will be compatible with an HD tv and dvd player. =)

Umm.... wrong forum.

Take a look at AVS forum.

Brands? Pioneer, Yamaha, Harmon Kardon, Denon, Onkyo, Marantz.... all good brands.
