Wood Floors vs LVT

I was wondering what everyone's opinion was on flooring (LVT vs Wood). I'm on a concrete slab, and even though I have done EVERYTHING in my power to prevent the boards in the existing floor from separating , the temperature swings are too much for it. So a new floor is needed

I am strongly, STRONGLY considering LVT throughout my first floor. Why? It doesn't dent, it doesn't expand/contract, it cleans up easily as hell. Oh, AAAND, it's got a cushion layer, which would be great for my little one. What do you think? Here's an example:

Have you considered polishing/finishing the concrete slab and using area rugs?

Makes for an indestructible floor, a replaceable soft area rug and easy cleaning.

if you are replacing the floor, just make sure that a proper thermal barrier is put up and you will be fine with whatever you decide to do... even though vinyl is waterproof, you don't want the moisture to transfer into your living space, or even worse it turns to mold underneath the floor....

Thanks for the responses thus far. I stopped at a flooring place and was REALLY impressed by the LVT, even moreso than some of the handscraped stuff!

Resurfacing the concrete alone is too urban/upscale a look for our humble home, it just wouldn't work. I've a moisture barrier as is, but I do appreciate the comment!

I like what I've seen of LVT, although it's mostly been in kitchens/baths as a tile substitute.

Would you ever put an underlayment under the flooring? Something that's a little thicker, breathable? Something like a foam padding?

OP I recently put "glue down" strand bamboo floors in my house. I'm on a concrete slab, but the glue is the moisture barrier for my application. I ripped out vinyl flooring in my house because of the tiles starting to come up from the slab in some places. That was caused by poor installation by the flooring guys when they built my house. Good luck with whatever you decide to go with.

icy2, I have the strand bamboo as well...it sucks ass. It's coming apart EVERYWHERE, I believe I was sold a 'green' batch. FML, $2k down the tubes.

How level is your slab?

I'm using laminate wood with the foam backing in my basement and I love it. Cleans up easy and I had to take it up to get some waterproofing done and the peices snappped right back in place.

Slab is level, didn't have many imperfections in it when i pulled up my old flooring. Sucks that your floor went to shit, because as you said it isn't cheap. Hope mine is better off
