Awesome place, I'm so jealous! So glad I could look at this from home where I can actually see the pictures! Stupid work firewall classifies Flickr as a social networking site so its blocked. I dream of having a place like that someday!

Oh, and when you do your "veggie" garden just remember this. The camo netting only throws off the helicopters. And most grow houses get busted because their electric bills go sky high very suddenly or they get caught bypassing the meter (not that I've ever cut a grow house or anything ). Either way, if the bill's high from the start, they'll never know!

But mostly I don't smoke. I am a boring The kind that really loves trees. And birds and deer and butterflies and all the other lovely things in our woods. Except poison ivy. I have no love for poison ivy. Or ticks.

Went to meet with the builder yesterday and loved what I saw.

They've started framing the screened porch...

Vaulted master bedroom. There is another window on the left, and a slider out to the deck on the right.

The skylight in the upstairs bath. This is about all I've seen of upstairs so far, as we don't have any stairs yet.

Spray foam insulation? I would if you haven't considered it, especially roof between rafters.

They really are zipping along - went by on my way home from work and now have a front porch framed as well as rafters over the screened porch. Didn't go in to see what progress there...

David_Dude, with the basement, it's somewhere around 3100. We're not finishing it right away, though. When we do, we plan to make it into a photography studio and meeting space for consults & proofing.

Majofo. Damn D, thats a lot of sq footage including the basement. Another quick question: Once you finish the basement in the near future, will they charge you more prop taxes a year since that's considered a living space and is now included into the value of the home?

BTW spray foam insulation?

Typically they do a re-assess whenever you pull permits for an improvement.

So if you pull permits, yes. If not, no...

If you do go with spray foam insulation, make sure you get EVERYTHING prewired and piped. If you have to add anything later, it is a royal PITA and sometime impossible.

this. Spray foam is the way to go though, for both heat and silence. That way if anyone happens to be outside.....they wont hear you squealing like a pig during your disgusting sex romps.

My builder told me Monday that we also have over 1000 square feet in deck/porch space. That's a lot of Trex. I don't know about the insulation. I know spray foam is good stuff, though. I watch lots of HGTV.

I agree - I did a double take when I did the math. The finished square footage is just under 1900, and the basement is right around 1200. Will make great office/studio space.

Thank you so much - I agree about the family portraits, too. Especially when we get some scraggly deadfall and things cleaned up and put in a couple of paths. There is an awesome huge fallen oak tree that is about waist-high off the ground that will make a great place to pose people. Can't wait to see it all in the fall!

Who the hell gets permits?

Everything is looking good! Houses seem to be flying up all over. A friend is building a massive house around here and I really can't believe how fast this thing is going up. 10 years ago things were so busy it would be unthinkable.

Absolutely. You haven't lived until you've wedged your fat ass into the corner of an attic laying on your back on a beam, balancing as to not fall through the ceiling while jamming a glow rod through hard hard hard spray foam insulation, creating so much friction it heats up your glow rod to the point it burns your skin off as soon as you touch it, just to create a cavity to run a wire outside. FUN. The stuff is great for your energy bills. From an installer of wiring or piping standpoint

Sounds like they're cruising right along. That's an obscene amount of porch space. Careful you don't attract the wrong kind of crowd.
