Tile Saw Questions
Im planning on tiling my kitchen, entrance, and one bathroom in my house. I went to Home Depot to look at the prices for the rental of a tile saw. For a large tile saw it was $52 a day and for a small one it was $45 a day and around $215 for a week.
The tiles that I am currently looking at are porcelain for the bathroom and marble for the entrance way. Bathroom and kitchen tiles are going to be 12"X12" and the entrance will be a little larger. The areas that I am planning on tiling are very rectangular and not very large in size. There is very little curves or bends. Im trying not to spend too much on a saw so I can buy nicer tiles.
My questions are:
1) Should I buy a saw or rent one? I dont think I will be tiling again for a while after completing this project but I enjoy having the tools when I need them.
2) Has anyone tried using Craftsman 7 inch wet tile saw like the one below? Is this decent quality or a waste of money?
http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...6+Cut+Off+Saws
3) Do the manual tile saws work well even with little experience?
4) What do you guys recommend for a light duty DIY kind of guy?
5) What are the major benefits of having a larger and more expensive tile saw? So far I have seen some for around hundred and the rest are closer to 500. Why the big price jump. Is it just because those are professional quality?
Thanks in advance for all the info.

Buy a tile saw for the less $100, it will be fine for your intended use.
I think the differences between the larger and expensive ones and the less expensive ones will be power, accuracy, and size of tile (including thickness) can be cut in one pass, also durability.
I would imagine you would have to go slower during cutting on the smaller, $100 saws.
I did a lot of tile while back and had loaned my tile saw to several people. M&K 770 and still on the original diamong blade (at least 12 projects and over 8000 sq. ft.).

Do the guys at Home Depot use their own $200 saws? When I was doing my tiling, I didnt buy or rent, i just bought em to HD to cut @ $1 a cut. As i was watching them cut, i noticed they were selling the same one they used for like $199. I figured next time i would buy the same one since it seems to work well for them and it wasnt too costly

Big Block go VROOOM!
I'll admit I have zero experience with this but from what I've heard/read, the quality of tile cuts is much more dependent on the blade than the saw. HD may very well be using the same saw they're selling, but they may also have a $200 diamond blade in it.

Aaaarrrggghhhh!
I bought THIS badboy at HD 4 years ago. It's done 6 rooms (including 2 full kitchens) between my old house, my dads and my sisters house.
It's a great saw, not too expensive and I didn't have to rush anything because of a rental time frame.. Oh, and it came with an extra diamond cutter which we haven't even used yet...
