Definitely can't wait to see how the cutting board comes out. How many of those offers are you willing to make?

Haha, I'm willing to take as many offers as possible but might have to up the price from beer to single malts...

Those are actually some of the easiest ones to do. There are a lot of really super complicated designs out there that look freaking awesome but take forever to actually make.

Right now I finished the final glue up and router plane (can't thickness plane end grain ) to level everything out. I'm now going through and doing the metric fuck ton of sanding required to take out all the router tool marks and get the surface free of tear out and defects. Hope to have it done tomorrow night and will post pics when I get there. The rough state of it right now looks pretty good though, I'm impressed with myself.

I'd watch Sam play with his wood.
In all seriousness when I get older, I want a full woodworking shop...lathe and all.
I'm fascinated...already have a killer Freud plunge/fixed router

Demand is going even higher!

Seriously though guys, I'm happy to make as many as people want provided you're ok with waiting a while to get them since I obviously don't do this for a living.

Come on up here, you'll like it in the summer. You can play with my wood with me.

I wish I had unfinished space in the basement for a wood shop but all I have is part of my garage. I'm slowly but steadily getting the tools to do stuff. Next up is a bigger sliding miter saw and some hand planes. I'll be building a dust collection system soon too, working on this stuff makes an epic mess.

For the cutting board or the table? The table is just pine studs for the frame and select/clear pine for the top. Pretty cheap overall, I think that project was ~$40 all in.

For the cutting board I got that material from a local lumber store. The stuff I got is more expensive because it was by the piece and not by the board foot as well as being smaller pieces of S4S which is great but you pay for it. If I were to get S2S or S3S lumber that I could process myself and get it in bulk rather than pre-cut pieces, it would be a lot cheaper. The material only cost for that cutting board is ~$33 excl glue. I could probably get a lot more for my money by buying larger pieces and milling myself which is what I'd do if I was going to make a bunch of these things.

Alright so I got the thing finished tonight and I think I did a pretty good job for my first go at something like this. Pics as promised:

After a metric fuckton of sanding with very coarse grit paper and going around the edge with a roundover bit, I ended up with this:

...and the moment we've all been waiting for...the finishing. Finish going on:

And first round of finish done:

What I learned is I need to buy a hand plane to get this done faster and maybe a RO sander...but overall really good results! So now who wants one?

^ That looks awesome. I may steal that design idea except reverse the maple and purple heart and switch it to end grain. FWIW, that board is an edge grain not end grain so it will wear out and start getting splinters and shit. When that happens, and if you want to ship it, let me know and I can shoot it through the planer and it'll be good as new.

An inlayed board is well beyond my current abilities nor would it be an end grain board.

Sup dudes, finally more updates. First up, doors are all done.

Went from this shit ass hollow door:

To this awesome solid doors with new knobs and hinges (replacing the crappy trim in the basement is on the to-do list which is why it doesn't match yet):

The big update is that the kitchen remodel has officially started!

This is the before of the dining room. I have to take befores of the rest of the kitchen tonight after I clean it up. We spent the weekend emptying it of all of our stuff so it looks like a bomb went off in there..

Demo started in the dining room only at this point. They are delivering cabinets today so they needed this space to store them:

Rest of the demo is on Friday this week, the re-assembly begins next week.

Yup, all the HD's in my area (and the Lowes too for that matter) all allow dogs. Only Menards doesn't.

He kills it at the store though, all the bishes love him. If I wasn't already married, this dog would be the ultimate wingman.

Thanks bro. He's pretty cool though viscous enough to get kicked out of daycare for aggressive playing. Look at that face, just the hallmark example of aggression and "don't fuck with me".

Huh? That's the plywood subfloor...they are all standard 4x8 sheets of 3/4 ply.

No progress yet... Electrician was supposed to come by last Thursday/Friday to do rough in work but had something come up. The HVAC guy is allegedly coming in today but I'm not getting my hopes up. My contractor is absolutely terrible at coordinating their subs.

So HVAC finally happened and electrical is going in as we speak.

On another note, just bought this guy (expensive piece of walnut) to turn into my next end grain cutting board. Just need a few pieces of maple to go with it and I'll be ready to rock and roll. This board will be ~2x the material cost of the first one though now that I have the right tools, it should take a lot less time to make.

Update time!

I built out this thing into our entry closet since we didn't want the door there anymore. Little touch ups to the paint and should be done.

Also got my next cutting board into the final glue up. This one is an end grain brick style made out of walnut and maple, it's for me personally for the new kitchen.

I'll post up once I finish with the fuck ton of sanding and finishing that goes into one of these. If any of you still wants one, I'll take orders for the rest of the summer...after that it's too fucking cold for glue to dry.

Love the cutting boards and any kitchen updates? Oh, you would think that a GC could coordinator their subs, since that is the main reason you hire them but they can't, ever.
