Post pics of your entertainment center!
I don't have much, only the 32" TV, a DVD/VCR combo and a micro system that's actually pretty loud and awesome for watching movies for surround sound effects.
Some of you remember I asked about suggestions on what kind of track light I should put way back in April...This is what I ended up doing. There was no power running to the ceiling, so I had to cut holes on the ceiling, across the wall, down to new switches that I put. The switches are digital dimmers as well. The track light is actually 2 units put together. Look closely and you'll see that they are 2 tracks..
Wadya think?

Nice Ed, here is mine:
Livingroom: 2 Polk RTi 28 and Polk PSW 350 10in sub with samsung receiver. Makes my neighbors irritated when I turn up the volume
The speaker stands I built myself out of shelves to save some money
Computer room: GF picked up 5.1 Logitech Z5300e as a new years gift (280W RMS and 560W peak), got a good deal for $130 (free shipping from amazon.com)

Energy Home Theater System
It's a 65" Mitsubishi HDTV w/ EXL-26(fronts) & EXL-12(sub). I forgot the model #'s of the rear spkrs. & center channel. I'm using the powered antenna on top of the TV to get HD/digital signals. Watching Monday Night Football & the World Series in high definition 4 free is just amazing & way better than DVD quality.

I know this thread has been dead for some time, but here are some pics of my Home Theater set-up!
A couple of dark shots of my tv & rack!
I obviously would be much happier with a front projecter...but this is what I am working with for now.
The surrounds!
My movie collection!

^^ thanks for the advice, I'll give that a shot with the speakers. But yeah, there are space issues. The room is really not meant to be a tv room, but the main living room is already called for.
There is a doorway to the right of the couch, so I can't move it away from the wall unless I made enough room to walk behind it, and then the couch is too close to the tv.
Any advice on how to deaden the sound a little? Since I took the carpet out the echo and 'boominess' is pretty bad.

So where exactly should the front speakers be in relation to the tv? Should they be as far apart as possible and toed in? How about the center? Other than aesthetics is there any reason to mount it on the wall or a shelf?

farther apart for a wider soundstage---but not too far. (but you would want the widest possible)
speakers should also be as far away from the walls as possible (sides and rear--make sure they're not equidistant *should not be say 24 inches from the back and 24 from the sides*)
the toe in is something that varies w/ speakers--- some may have good imaging facing forward, but i believe most would sound best w/ some toe in---
these are all adjustments you need to make in accordance to your own taste
google "speaker placement" there are a lot of good guides on how to position your speakers... (much better than me)
i did a lot of measuring and playing around w/ the toe in and other small things to get it to my liking
(btw, i haven't setup my 7.1 yet--and i dont know if i will, i changed around my whole room just to listen to music... either way, music or movies, the positioning of the main speakers is the most important)
oh, caz---sweet system

Thanks. He's right about the wall, but IMO, speakers next to a wall is not that big of a deal. You just don't want the back of the speaker where the air port is too close to a wall. But you could move your movies somewhere else, like along the left hand side of the wall next to the coffee table where all that empty space is. Then but your left main where the movies were closer to the wall, then center your TV in between the current position of the left main and the new position of the right main. That would widen the sound stage a bit. Obviously you would need to scoot your couch and rears over to match the new position of the TV and mains. I agree about toe varying by speaker to speaker. The only way to figure it out is trial and error. You really won't gain much by mounting your rears on the wall other than having it look a little better. Your speakers sit kind of high with their stands so you’re good there. Still try to move your couch off the wall a little. I have tile floors as well, but my heavy couches eat up the brightness. You already have an area rug which would have been my first suggestion. Perhaps maybe a bigger one...heavier. More pictures on the wall and a real heavy drape covering the back window would probably make the biggest difference. Tile floors naturally reflect more, so the only thing you can do to compensate is put more absorbing materials in the room. I hope this helps!

Okay, you were talking about mounting your center, my bad. It's good where it is, as long as it is angled towards your seating area. A laser pointer works real good to make sure it is aimed properly!

The cables have since been tucked away a little better. I think I use the TV more as a monitor than as a TV nowdays. Nice to websurf from the couch while streaming MP3s over the HT.
DVD/CD storage shelf project will probably come over the next few weeks if time permits.
