I have heard the Husqvarna equipment sold at the likes of Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-mart, etc. aren't really genuine Husqvarna products. Same for John Deere. Any insight into if this one is legit?
Lowes. All the Husqvarnas were on sale this past week. All $50-$100 off.
I had been eyeing the HU700 for a while but decided to jump up to the bigger motor. As the new HU700 uses the same Honda motor my 15 year old Honda did (GVC160). Lol
Anyway, I sold it for $50 on craigslist. I was almost going to keep it just to do something crazy with the motor. But I wanted it out of my garage.

They are real. An independent dealer probably won't carry the same models that the big boxes have, and they will probably tell you the stuff at the big box is junk.

It's not that I don't believe you, just that it would be foolish not to ask. How do you know?
Reviving an old one to not make a new one. I just retired a hand-me-down Honda HRT216TDA. Even though I did all the maintenance last year and it runs like a dream I was ready for an upgrade. The self-propel system stopped working years ago. So it was kind of hurting my back to use it.
Anyway, just picked up this bad boy this past weekend.
It's a Husqvarna HU800AWDH. AWD, 190cc Honda GVC, large rear wheels, the whole nine. And the hose hookup to clean the deck works amazingly well.
I actually ended up getting the same exact mower. I've had it for 3 years now and I've really liked it for the most part.

As long as you get one made by a major brand and with a good motor (Honda or Briggs), it doesn't really matter. For a walk behind mower, the rest of the stuff is fairly trivial.

And I love it. The only complaint I have is the belts that drive the front wheels are a little noisy when being activated.
Why do you need AWD for a walk behind lawn mower?
I'm still rocking the Toro recycler I got for free from a coworker because it stopped running one year and he didn't want to pay to fix it.
$6 carb rebuild kit later, I have a perfectly functioning lawn mower.
I do want to replace it with a nice Honda in the near future but I just can't justify it when this thing works perfectly fine for the time being. Sharpen the blades and most mowers will eat up just about any length grass.
after moving to a new house last year and now having almost 4x's the lawn I used to have, I sold my old 20" Lawnboy and picked up this as a replacement... last year it would take me close to 2 hours to mow the lawn, now I have cut it down to about an hour... the 30" deck helps reduce the # of passes I need to do and I really like the clutch brake on the blade so I don't have to stop the engine every time I have to empty the catcher... it was pricey and a lot more than what I wanted to pay for a mower but I took it as a long term investment where i'll save 50% of my time using this...
30 inch deck! Good God almighty! Still a 190cc motor.
As for the AWD comment. I'd honestly would have preferred it to not be AWD. I don't have hills so it wasn't a "plus". But there was no way I could get the 190cc Honda motor with large rear wheels and not have it be AWD.

Heard the same thing from my dad. His Lowes Husqvarna weed trimmer crapped out on him so he brought it to a dealer to see what it would cost to repair and he was told that they couldn't/wouldn't fix it since it is not the same that they sell.
And edit:
I am now sold on Toro mowers. I got a 10+ year old hand-me-down from a coworker and it works (almost) like a champ. The self propel takes a little bit to get going, but once it does it moves right along. I only use it around flower beds etc because I have 1.5+ acres to mow. But it sure makes using the riding mower a lot faster.
They are the exact same products. It doesn't work like buying a Samsung 9000 series TV from Samsung and buying a 9000E series TV from Costco. Those are slightly different.
Now what can happen is that some products require assembly. Like a snowblower for instance. I'd much rather have my expensive snow blower assembled by a trained certified tech than some Joe Shmoe making $9/hr at a big box store.
But rest assured if you find the model on Husq's website, and you find the same exact model at a big box store, they are the same. Official retailers just have the option to carry the entire line...unlike Lowes/HD/etc.
I would say the more you move out of residential and into commercial product lines that rule likely changes. But it's not like you're really buying commercial type products at a big box store.

If you have personal pace, replace the drive wheels, tighten the pull cable that controls the lot, and replace the belt. Problem solved. The gears to drive the wheels are plastic and on the wheels themselves (they wear out) and the cable/belt stretches over time.

John Deere is the exception. What they sell at HD is NOT the same as what they sell at a power equipment store. What they sell at HD is much smaller and lower quality than the real JD stuff. I had a JD rider from the mid 80's that I just got rid of because the carb was failing and a new carb was $400+ due to the parts no longer being available. Other than that, the mower ran like a champ and had zero rust on it.
That said, most people don't need the higher end JD stuff unless you're mowing 2+ acres at a go and using it as a real tractor and not just a glorified lawnmower.
Also, how are those two TV's different? srs question since I've been looking at TVs at costco.
Surely they aren't listed as the same model number between an official retailer and a big box store though, right?
You just have to make sure that the model numbers don't change between A and B. Even slightly. They carry the regular full fledged standard products too. But sometimes, especially when it seems like too big of a discount, they will change the model slightly. For instance, 4K TVs, I imagine the difference hypothetically between a legit 9000 series and a 9000e from Costco would be only one not two of the HDMI ports are 120hz, etc.
For Deere the 100 series lawn tractors are sold by the big box retailers. They are made by Deere in a Deere factory. Most small dealers will not sell them because there is no point in trying to compete with the big box on price. I've heard stories of dealers refusing to service them but why would they turn away service business?
BTW I noticed that my local Home Depot is not carrying lawn tractors in the store this year and not as many lawn mowers. The area that is usually reserved for them is being consumed by grills.
Does anybody recommend anything to help prevent grass from sticking/clumping above/around the blade? I have a Husqvarna 7021P that has this issue. I suppose cleaning it every use would help. Maybe I can wax the underside? Coat it with Teflon?
The hand me down Craftsman finally died last year. Crank shattered cutting the long grass in the back yard. Borrowed a buddy's Husqvarna with the 160cc Honda engine. It didn't have the power for the job. I ended up buying the model with the 7.75 Briggs & Stratton. RWD and big rear wheels. It eats up whatever I throw at it. Did have an issue with it not starting in March. Pulled the cover off and shot a bunch of carb cleaner in it. Smoked like George Burns and spewed an oily mist out of the exhaust for about 2 minutes but ran like a champ. Haven't had any issues since. Just combination of old gas and sitting for 4-5 months without being run.
My Simplicity lawn tractor stripes lawns just by the nature of the way the deck is designed. The deck floats independent of the tractor and has a full length roller in the back of the deck.
In reality you don't need anything fancy to stripe a lawn. I've heard of people striping lawns by tying a 2x4 to the back of their mower. BTW the striping will be more pronounced if you cut the grass higher (3"+).

Yeah, I didn't even notice the larger rear wheels on yours. Other than that, it does appear to be exactly the same. Mine usually engages the awd fairly quietly, but does make a little sound every once in a while, which is a little concerning.

The Honda HRX mowers are excellent and I'm sure you'll be happy with it for a long time. I would've gone with one of the HRX models if I hadn't opted for the Husqvarna.
The 20" from Scotts is one of the few that raise the cut height all the way to 3", so that was the one I was looking for used. It's a bit of a pita to turn around (they all are....) and obviously can't handle anything near the edges, but other than that, it's super nice to not have to worry about a cord, gas, maintenance, shooting a rock into my sliding glass door, noise, etc...
Bumping this thread. Starting to look for a new mower for myself. The free Toro I got from a friend is about done. The self propel is basically shot and will cost me ~$200 to replace it so I'm going to move on to something newer. The motor still works perfectly so I'm going to offload it on CL for $100 or something.
What's good these days? I was thinking of going Honda for the blade stop and variable mulch/bag but Toro has some great features (personal pace and a lot cheaper) that makes me want to go there too. Thoughts?
Requirements are must be walk behind and single blade. Under $700 would be great, don't need electric start.
I picked up a Honda walk behind at the first of November because my PTO clutch went out on the Honda rider. I haven't had it for very long, but I like it so far. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Doing a lot of research, I was swayed away from a Husqvarna walk behind because a lot of people have had issues with the self-propeller system using plastic components that break. Others who have had engine troubles claim Husqvarna refused to service their mower and required them to contact Honda or Briggs & Stratton. Between those two repeated anecdotes, I chose to go with one that is all one brand.
So I need to get a riding mower. My newly sodded front yard took longer to mow than my entire old yard.
Thinking of a John Deere lawn tractor, 42” cut. I prefer to mulch and have 3/4 of an acre to mow. Reason for the Deere is the easy oil change on the new models. Not needing to keep a drain pan around sounds good to me.
Cub Cadets look cooler though.
As you might be able to tell I don’t know much about these little beasts.
Any advice out there for a riding mower newb? I hate making $2000 mistakes.
