I like my temperature exact as well. As soon as I get into my new place and confirm I have a blue wire with my unit I will be ordering the Honeywell unit.

Honeywell unit is awesome...especially if you have a buddy who works for Honeywell and can get you one for $100.
If you don't have a blue C wire (make sure it's wired to the C terminal on your furnace!) you can use the G wire too. Just move the G (it's the fan wire, make sure what wire that is on your furnace) wire from the G terminal to the C terminal on your furnace and connect it to the C terminal on the tstat. The downside is you'll lose manual fan control. It'll still kick on whenever the HVAC comes on though.

Does the Honeywell click when it turns things on/off? The Nest is silent. It's one feature that I really like since it is in my Living Room.

So I installed the Honeywell last night and now my AC takes forever to actually change temp. It took an hour to adjust 4 degrees last night. I hooked the wires up to all the same places they were on the original one. I am not sure why it is not working the same now. To me it seems like it should be cooling faster than that and I am pretty sure it did before I changed it.

^ Give it a bit, it might be learning your HVAC system so that it can understand heating/cooling rates. If it still doesn't work properly then get an exchange, mine certainly doesn't take that long to change the temp in my home.

Oliver!!!
I picked up the Honeywell in February. Been a good unit overall, but the temperature seems to be inaccurate and a bit erratic. A search showed several other instances of that, and Honeywell has acknowledged the problem but said that it was fixed by a software update. Mine is fully updated, but still having issues. Been in contact with Honeywell, and their customer service is pretty good, albeit a little slow to respond to emails. If it wasn't for that, it would be absolutely perfect.
I'm sure the Nest is a great unit, but as I do shift work and am never home at regular times it just wouldn't work for me.

I think I might have found one of the issues. I found this in the manual under advanced settings. Early Recovery for Cooling - Select No to begin recovery on schedule or Yes to ramp down temperature early. I assume it means that if I change a temp it normally slowly adjust but if I select Yes then it will get to that temp as fast as possible rather than the most energy efficient way.

^ No, what that means is that if you have your house at 80 during the day and want it at 70 at 5pm, the thermostat will have the house at 70 at 5pm rather than starting to cool to 70 at 5pm. This means the AC will kick on earlier than 5pm in order to get it there.
FWIW, mine was acting odd too but is fine now after the software update. Been working flawlessly for just over a year now.

Hmm I wonder how long it will take for mine to receive the update. I have had it connected for about 24hrs now. Can I check the software version online or do I have to be at the Thermostat to check it?
As of last night it was still working slow. Took about 3 hours to change 4 degrees yesterday but it was also 93 outside with 45% humidity. Maybe that is just the rate of cooling for my house. 2900sqft with one ac unit for upstairs and one for downstairs. Only trying to cool the downstairs right now.

Mine doesn't have a problem with those outdoor temps and I only have one AC for 2400 sqft.
I'm not sure you can check version on the phone but you might be able to force the update when you get home (or if you are home) from the thermostat.

I couldn't find a way to force an update and from what I found it seems they just handle pushing out the updates. I got busy at work and wasn't able to test how fast it worked so I will have to do another one at some point.
I am thinking I will just hook up the old one this weekend and see how the unit works with it again unfortunately. Don't really want to have to call out a service company.

When is the last time you changed the filter? Is it blowing cold?

If they had the unit on during the finish work (typically the drywallers, trim guys, and painters want the climate controlled then you probably have all kinds of crap in the filter.

^ i replace my filter every month regardless.

Every month???
I do mine twice a year. Once at start of summer, once at start of winter.
FWIW, the Honeywell will remind you to change your filter at an interval you set.
It'll do the same for humidifier pads...which reminds me I need to do that.

I replace mine once a month in the summer, then about every 3 months in the winter. Have to in Florida. The things runs so much to keep up with the outside temps and humidity. Doesn't help that my a/c is 19 years old and has to cool 2400sf with vaulted ceilings.

Asked a neighbor in my building that had one..no issues. Says it paid for itself in 3 months.

Anyone interested in buying one that has been opened, but never installed? I have the latest model T200577, screen has some scratches, but otherwise not used and comes in box with all papers and mounting hardware. Selling for my boss. Shoot me a PM if interested.

Mine has been good for almost two years. My only concern is what happens to it when the battery dies in 7 years. Toss it in the trash?

I REALLY wish Nest offered a remote unit, I live in a condo and my stupid builder put the thermostat near my front door. I'd like to have it in the living room, or my bedroom where its cold, not in the front where the temps don't really vary all that much, I end up having to warm or cool my place more than the desired temp (on the thermostat) to achieve the correct temp. Relocating the thermostat would be way too costly unfortunately.

You'd likely have that issue no matter where you put the tstat in your house. Some areas will always be warmer/colder than others if the HVAC wasn't properly designed and balanced.

the only remote "sensor" that they have is the DropCam.
and its only useful for motion to signal that you're still home and not "away"
I just read about the Protect and it has a feature similar to the dropcam, where it senses motion to keep the nest from going into away mode.

How long until Google buys August?

I think the protect shares its motion detection data with the thermostat letting it know people are still in the house

They should include a temp sensor, I think the people that buy a protect are very likely to already own the nest or plan to in the future

lol nope. But knowing google, they would install a laser measurement doodad that would figure out the temperature gradient from the floor based on the height of the protect and calculate the true temp.
Or probably not.

^They will invent it, start selling it, and then drop support for it in 6 months.
