my new hobby
well, now that i have saturdays off, i go to yard sales. i pick up this gem for $20. it is about 70 or 80 years old and is solid oak. i have been bored lately but now i have a project. so far its fun.
so i am going to strip it and polyurethane it and replace the hardware. spent about 2 or 3 hours on it today. let me tell you the stripping materials could burn the skin right off of you

wow, looks great!
what were you using to strip? not jasco, was it?
I'd love to do stuff like that... wish I had a way to move stuff. Can't really do much with a small car.

I went through a few gallons of this industrial stripper called jasco when I was stripping paint off my cement floor. It was nasty, disgusting stuff.
So whats next on this thing? How are you going to stain it?

ok guys, it's done.
i do have to buy the hardware and reinstall the keyhole trim but after 3 or 4 coats of polyurethane it's done.
it took 30 hours to strip the paint and sand the whole thing down. mostly with 60 grit, then 240 grit to get a smoother surface, since it was hard wood, there wasnt really many.
i prepped the surface by using paint thinner to clean the surface, wait til it dried and then used thin coats of the poly.
once the poly was dry i would use steel wool and lightly buff the surfaces. then i would use paint thinner again to clean the surface. after 3 or 4 times(your choice) it's done
reassemble
it took me a total of 7 days to complete
it was fun but it will be a little while before i do something like this again
enjoy!!
