My Kitchen Remodel/Improvement

Recently had a kitchen renovated, project began on the last week of Jan 07 and completed on the 3rd week of February. We contacted several kitchen/custom cabinet installers and general contractors….had them drew up plans and bid on the project. New stainless steel appliances were ordered at first I wanted to get some high end appliances – Wolf and Subzero but the prices on those were just a little bit high for my budget so the wife and I settled for all KitchenAid appliances which were the higher-end model of Whirlpool. Well the transformation project turns out very well so the wife and I are very happy and satisfied with the end result. So here are some of the pictures of the old and new.

KITCHEN
-new granite countertops (Tan Brown color)
-all new stainless steel appliances (except for the cooktop)
-new backsplash (Travertine tiles)
-under mounted stainless steel sink with heavy duty garbage disposer installed.
-new cabinets (knotty alder hardwood)
-under cabinet lighting and a couple of display cabinets with lights installed.
-new hardware (drawers have soft closing mechanism tracks, cabinet doors have easy to remove clip on hinges)
-new floor tiles

Damn, I thought the "before" pics looked good enough, but the remodel is fantastic. I love the cooking area.

I hear ya....but the wife insist she wanted a flourescent light besides the recess lights because she wanted a more brighter light instead of using those lights. I tried hard to tell her its not a good idea....but I got to keep her happy.

Hey all......thanks for the compliment and sorry for the huge pics, it was quite late when I posted.

I really love the color of the cabinets and the stone tile back drop have you thought of perhaps a more appealing fixture for the fluorescent light?? With everything else being so non cookie cutter it makes it sort of an eye sore you know. The kitchen looks great though I can definitely tell you spent some

That's a beauty. I'm not a big fan of the mismatching pulls, but they work.

I retired as an E-6 and stayed for 20 yrs. only....had a civilian job (contractor) lined up so I took the retirement. Had a short stint at Castle AFB (when it was active) during my early years.

So is your current duty location at Shady J? I was there during the early 90s.

Thanks dude and to all.......well gotta tell you it set me back, let say the cost was like equal to buying a nice brand new car or SUV. So for sometime I won't be spending for things I wanted to buy for myself. Additionally found out last night while preparing my tax I'm on a higher bracket this year which sucks....I'll be paying a lot more to Uncle Sam this year.

The kitchen looks INCREDIBLE!! Just one thing....why on earth is there a little window just above the counter top??? It's too short to even see out of!

looks great, 1 thing i noticed is they installed the lower cabinets before the tile was complete, although not a huge deal they should have tiled underneath the cabinetry.

- Well we did talk about this part, the cabinet installer mentioned you can either have the tile underneath the cabinet or no tile just a matter of economics. According to him on his past installations (bigger/more expensive homes and new constructions) they don't put any tile underneath the cabinet due to the fact its a waste.

- Like SN14 said its for ventilation...actually had 2 small windows (if you look at the photo before the remodel). So one of the small window is now covered due to the relocation of the refrigerator as you can in the picture.

Thanks again all for the compliments....btw my favorite appliance in my kitchen is the dishwasher (KitchenAid)....so quiet you can hardly hear it when its turned on.
