Finally, I have something worth posting! The biggest update is that I have given up on finishing the "house" part of the project and have hired a contractor. The contractor started just about a week ago and things have finally been flying along.

In about two days, all of the plumbing is in!

In living with the island for about a year, we have decided to remove it to make more driveway space. So . . . island removed

Lastly, I really needed a retaining wall around the fill we used, so that is now in as well.

I'm currently waiting on my A/C guy to finish so that we can bring in the electricians. With any luck, everything will be done in about a month!

Wow man that thing is absolutely gorgeous! Congrats!

I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures and eventually see the finished product

If you don't mind me asking, how many cars do you have? What are they? You have a Viper and a Porsche? What else

What is new in the stable?

G,

Looking great. And I wouldn't say that you gave up. I know I'm more then impressed by what you accomplished. I don't think you gave up... I just thing other priorities got in the way leading you to hire assistance!

Either way, looks sweet. Looking forward to more pics as it progresses!!

A passing of the torch?! I'm just tired of living in boxes in "temporary" housing. Add in the fact that I have been out of town every week since the end of July-and that was it.

I still plan on doing the other barn myself-so I still have some work ahead of me.

I have actually narrowed down the fleet a bit to free up some cash. I have been building this place with cash and hope to finish it out without having to borrow. The way things are going these days, I would rather not owe anyone money . . . So, I sold the Jag and my truck and bought a Jeep SRT8 Once I recover a bit, I'll be adding to the fleet.

JB-how's your housing situation coming along? You planning on staying put for a while or still trying to move?

We're working on some things . The outcome of those will dictate if we just stay put (which wouldn't be bad since we love our house) for a few more years or move sooner. I should have more info in the upcoming weeks. Don't worry, I'll start a new topic too so I don't hijack yours

A quick update: Electric is all wired and ready-don;t have any photos as it looks just like it used to-but with more wire

The entryway/deck started today-I should have pics later this week when I return from my business trip.

I rented a CAT 430 backhoe this weekend to move some rocks-that was fun The wheel-loader shows up on Friday to move the real big ones

Doing anything special with the electric stuff? Different types of lighting, etc?

Not really-doing some low voltage, but that is about it. I would really like to do some LED stuff, but the selection isn't that great.

On another note, the deck / entranceway was startedthis week!

Great update Grayson! Thanks bro! I am glad you grabbed some help so you can start enjoying your digs!

My uncle built his house much like you're doing rite now and it was his pride and joy...other than his corvette collection... LOL

I am so happy for you!

...when he was done he didnt owe a cent and his house was exactly like he wanted it.. down to having a toilet installed in the middle of the 4 car garage so he could go and then keep working on his vettes...now that was an odd sight!!!

2) The AC is in

3) The insulation is done and the wallboard is going in (should be finished today)

For now, yes. Once a lady decides that she wants a real house, this will become the weekend getaway for the guys.

It looks fabulous. That deck is gorgeous!

Sorry if you've explained this, but why 2 separate buildings? Is there living space upstairs in both?

im confused - this is your full-time home? why do you need so much garage space on the ground level? or is this on a family member's estate, and you are holding down the living quarters?

Yes, this is my full time home. Why do I have so much garage space-why not? Cars are a passion of mine and i've always wanted a large garage.

wndrlst-we made them two different buildings to sit on the land better. The house is over the larger garage and the space over the smaller garage will house the home theater, pool table, and bar.

The lastest update is that the paint is done and the tile is going in!

Ahh...good ol' TX limestone foundation? Makes a lot of sense, and the way you have it divvied works well. Is there room for a hot tub on that deck??

sorry OP, i dont mean to sound rude, but what are your plans for selling this when it comes time to move on? This is overly unique. The demand for a property with a 5 car garage and living space above may be rough. Is there enough land on the prop for the future purchaser to construct a main house and use this as a guest quarters? (this is the R.E. investor side of me thinking)

LOL...
Honestly, alot of us may have had similar thoughts from a financial prospective, but since he can do this during a GLOBAL RECESSION... give him some latitude...

No worries-and I didn't mean to sound rude myself.

The simple fact is that I always plan on having this place. This will be my primary home for a few years and then I will buy a "real" house when it is time to "grow-up". When that happens, this will become the weekend house for time away from the future wife . . .
