How many acres does your home sit on?

like the subject says, how many acres does your house sit on?

im just curious to see if people prefer very small lots or nice yards or ranches/farms.

I've got .41 acres (17000 plus sq. ft) and I wish I had a lot more. I'd love a little gentlemans farm, but with the way prices are up in my area, I don't think it's gonna happen (unless I marry a rich old farmers wife).

Acres/Sq. Ft. calculator:

Back in Chicago burbs, we had 3 acres. But we relocated to Colorado and now its 15 and surrounded by U.S. Forest Service lands.

It would be sweet to have hundreds or thousands of acres to just do whatever on.

0.1 acre here.

I prefer a big lot, but I dont live in the sticks (or have millions to buy a 1+ acre lot in the city).

Well, it makes sense that land values in MA are significantly higher then Ohio.

Plus, not that it would make a huge difference, but when you sell a large tract of land, the per acre price drops. When you sell 600 acres in Ohio, the average price may have been $10k per acre, but if they were just selling 1 acre... it probably would have been closer to $60k-$70k per acre. If someone sold 600 acres in North Shore, MA the per acre price would be no where near $400k.

um, hate to tell ya, but Ohio is selling for what Joisey sells for, you Irish Mic, depending upon location. and - I'd match Chagrin Falls right up there with Short Hills or the Joisey Coast.

So do you guys plan on buying more land in a couple years when you can afford it? Or are you satisfied with a small lot?

Doesn't really have anything to do with being able to afford it. For us it had more to do with the type of people you are living with. We could have bought much more land and a bigger house but we'd be in a country club type setting and those are not the type of people we want to hang out with. So we chose a more family oriented community which had smaller lots.

Our next house will be on a larger piece of land though. Whether we decide to go into another community or just buy a nice piece of land somewhere is still up for debate, and it's too far away to start really thinking about it now...

Yo. don't even start talking about moving or next houses - spend at least one summer in that pool first!

More to maintain. We are only 3 people in my family so we do not need too much more...unless my son grows up to be soccer champion and wants a field in the back yard. For me I am moving from 1/4 acre to 1/2 acre this year - I am sure once the initial feeling of wow - look at all this space wears off, I would like more just to keep annoying idiot people away from me - since the Township will not let me dig a moat around my property. Otherwise, having more land just means more taxes NJ is going to suck from me...they are getting enough as it is.
As a kid I think we had 1+ acre - mostly woods - it was cool as a kid - could ride our dirt bikes or go-karts in there - made trails and jumps, nowadays I do not know where kids can do that stuff.

I'd like to have a couple of acres... (2-5). That would be good for me.

Will I be able to afford it ?? Probably not, but I can dream, can't I ??

LOL. Ugh, you have no idea. We went to a open house about a month or so ago to see a 9800 square foot house on 1.5 acres. The wife has a fresh head.

We're not going anywhere for a while. We may buy some land in the next year or so just to have it since prices of land keep going up and up, but we're not going anywhere for at least 5 years

Yeah I figured taxes would be pretty rough for some of you that live in the more urban areas. I'm not sure about other states, but here if you own over 10 acres it is considered a farm, which means you get big tax breaks. But anyways I just always hear people with small lots wishing they had some more land.

This is why I liked having so much land when I was growing up. Me and my brother made our own baseball field when we were growing up since there isn't any around us. Whenever we had friends over that's all we would do
