futons

so i have had enough with these goddamn futons breaking on me.

ive been through 5 in the past 4 years! i have purchased all types of futons in hope that the new designs would be more sturdy but they all end up bowing in the middle. or the legs bend/ come lose.

bought the most recent one in january and its already sagging on one half

now i am not fat =, i weigh 19o lbs. wtf is the deal with these things?

and no, i cant buy a regulat bed. im too tall to sleep in anything smaller than a queen size bed and my room is too small to fit one.

any suggestions?

I have one at home that i sleep on. im 180 lbs, i doubt 10 is much of a difference. its metal framed, tubular steel in a black matte finish. ill see if i can find a link for one. its sturdy as hell and taken some serious abuse.

It's fucking cheap now, i highly recommend it.

I used to have a metal tube-framed futon through the latter quarter of college, and through three years of marriage. That thing held up well. Of course, I weigh a lot less than you do.

The thing with futons (or any moving thing), is that once it becomes moveable, you start to add complexity to it. It has a tendency to break.

I had a wooden one for a couple years that never gave me any problems. It was my family room/living room couch and also a bed for anyone who stayed over.

i have a futon for the living room. i use it as a couch. it's from ikea, and i've had it for about 5 years now. i haven't had any problems with it. it's metal, but there are wooden beams that go across the frame to support the mattress.

i do need to get a new mattress though and the cushioning is starting to break.

i'll probably end up just getting a couch/sofa.

want a nice sturdy futon, just like many people say, you want it done right, do it yourself. Pick up some metal and start messing around with the broken ones you have. By the end of a few months you'll probably have an indestructible futon...

A wooden futon frame is the way to go.

In fact, although I'm currently using a standard mattress, it's currently resting on a futon frame made from wood which is about 8 years old.

I Have had this metal futon for going on 7 years. Never had any problems with it. I think we spent like $600 on it and its taken some serious abuse I think your gona have to dish out a good amount of money to get sum quality metal that wont bend. The wooden one we used to have cracked. The bars that support the matress on mine feel unbendable

How about a daybed instead of a futon? They are probably a whole lot more comfortable and stylish (many styles and looks available) and still don't take up much room...probably the same or less as a futon, and they can be multi-purpose --- seating/sleeping.
